The efTortts of the cotton interests to overcome the fiertf competition of silk and rayon seems to be achieving success, it was said. At tne end of 1928. 33,569.792 of the 35.359.956 i-pmdles in America had hummed busily at least part of the year, and the prospects for 1929 are even brighter. Thf American womans’ unlaithfulness to the southern cotton plant I during the last decade when she ! had been clad almost exclusively in ; Japanese silks or rayon is often blamed for the textile industry’s trouble. What, the textile trade has lost in women's custom it has more than gained by the large demand for cotton in automobile and tire construction. I has found a sympathetic hearing i with the cotton men. Such cover- | lets used to vary between 90 and I 100 inches. Now, as the result of a c impaign for covers long enough | to hide the tallest man from head to toe. they have been lengthened to 108 inches. Cotton traffic markers laid on concrete to indicate the lanes of lawful passage are being adertised by the textile interests to help absorb their output. Use of cotton j strips between the foundation and
surface of cement roads is also advocated by them. Island Is for Sale LONDON. April 26. —Brechu Island, the ownership of which carries a seat in the Channel Isles parliament. is for sale.
