VIKING SHIP 18 MIKE VOYAGE AROUND HORN Replica of Ancient Craft Will Attempt Voyage to San Francisco. KY OLAY MYRE tnited Press Staff Correspondent OSLO, Norway, April 19. —A replica of the vessels on which the ancient Vikings once rode the uncharted seas of the north will leave Norway at the end of this month for an around-the-Horn trip to San 'Francisco, it was announced here today. The ship, now nearing completion at Korgan, will cost approximately $6,000, all of which has been subscribed by the citizens of Bergen. It will t>e commanded by Captain Gerhard Folgero, a daring seafaring man. Captain Folgero told the United Press that he planned to set sail late in April and to cruise leisurely along the Norwegian coast, visiting ' several towns where he will give lectures illustrated with pictures of

a similar trip which he took two years ago. “After I leave Oslo,” the captain said, “I shall visit a few of the larger cities of western Europe, including Paris and London. Then I shall go to Barcelona. Prom there I shall set sail for South America, following down the east coast. “If we are successful in rounding the Horn,” the captain continued, “it will be the first time in history this difficult feat will have been accomplished by a Viking ship.” The crew will consist of three men in addition to Captain Folgero. They will be selected out of 1,000 applicants. Outfits of Viking armour will be carried, to be donned when the ship enters port. Hurt in Cavc-Io ANDERSON. STREET PAVING PROGRAM OPENS Board Starts New Action: Pool Discussed. Legal procedure to extend Kessler boulevard from Keystone avenue to Millersville and improve the pleasant Run and Fall Creek boulevard projects was started anew today to permit bids on concrete. John Milnor, board president, explained that the board had to rescind action on the former resolution, since it had been decided to include concrete in the specifications for the $600,000 program. The board ordered Attorney Edward B. Raub Jr. to prepare a resolution to acquire five-acre tract near
Pleasant Run parkway and Madison avenue for a south side swimming pool. Milnor told the south side representatives that the pool can net be completed this season. Henry F. Kottkanip, south side civic worker, has an option on the ground. Park commissioners objected to the price of $25,000, declaring it is “too high.” The board opened the way to buy the Sinclair estate at Forty-second street and Boulevard place with the ordering of another acquisition resolution. Action was rescinded on the plan to purchase, but civic leaders portested so strongly that the board is reconsidering. It will be bought if the price is agreeable, Milnor said.
