CONGRESS NOT DIVIDED ON SEX, WOMAN AVERS Meet on Equal Ground: Men Sentimental. Mrs. Rogers Says. BY JOSEPH S. YVXSNEY. I nited Prrus Staff f ©rrrsponder.t WASHINGTON, April 19—There s no sex division between the men and women members in the house in the opinion of Mrs. Edith Nourse Rogers. Republican of Massachusetts starting her third term. The; meet on equal ground. “Women members were not elected to represent women alone and there will not be a ‘woman's bloc’ in the house,” Mrs. Rogers said. “Men are just as tender-hearted and sentimental as women. Didn't an entirely male congress pass on woman’s suffrage and enacted the prohibition law?" Abilities Equal Mrs. Rogers said the eight women members of the house compare lavorablv with the male mem be r- . hip in ability and vision. Congresswomen. she said, are taking their work seriously. They are inxious to have the world fee! sex makes no difference in the task of legislating. "Women members are as; igned to committees in the same maimer assignments are given to the men. Os course if a woman is trained for a particular work .he 1 assigned to a committee bt t suited to her talents. “Os course we are shown every courtesy and the house membership has a saving sense of humor, too. But women in politics now is an old story, so there is no need to exploit it." Mrs. Regers said she views congress as an efficient, hard-working body. House rules work more satisfactorily than the usual senate procedure and expedites legislation, she added. 15, lieves in Party Loyalty “You will find in the house many serious-minded people with the country's interest at heart at all times. Many members never make speeches on the floor, but confine their activities to committee work and thereby obtain real results. "The majority of the members, including, of course, the congresswomen. believe in party loyalty. There are times, however, when the individual can not always support a party move, but this is seldom. Loyalty is one of the best traits an individual can have. And we could not do without, the two great political parties—one helps the other.” Mrs. Rogers said the congresswoman views President Herbert Hoover's message to congress as an “excellent business message which would result in helping agriculture, industry and commerce.” POPE PLANS NATIVE BISHOP FOR AFRICA Roman Catholic Head Expected to Follow New Policy. Bn I niltd I’rcs* ROME. April 19.—A native African Roman Catholic bishop was predicted today as an early step in Pope Pius' principle that Christianity must not be an instrument of nationalistic or colonial expansion in non-Christian countries. Pope Pius began development of his principle in 1926 when he consecrated with his own hands six native Chinese bishops in St. Peter's cathedral and since then three other Chinese and a Japanese have been made bishops. Elevation of an African priest to the episcopacy would give the Catholic church its first black bishop, but it was understood the Pope favored further expansion of his principle.

Tex., April 19.—Although the business men of Amarillo believe they made a “bad deal” in engaging the Chicago Civic Opera company to produce the opera “Thais’ for the benefit of this cow town community, the opera company need have no fear of financial loss, Mayor Ernest O. Thompson said today. Mayor Thompson on behalf of the Amarillo guarantors said the $2,500 deficit incurred by the company would be paid. “In Texas, we believe in paying our obligations regardless of whether we have made a bad deal,” he said. “We have made our protest, we have accomplished our purpose and the $2,500 is too trivial an amount to argue about.” Mayor Thompson also defended Gene Howe, editor, who engaged in extended controversy with Mary Garden after the Amarillo performance. Howe charged Mary was “so old she tottered,” and that the performance was cut. BODY HELD IN MORGUE Awaint Word From Relatives of Leonard Hadley. Pending word from relatives, the body of Leonard M.
