LEVIATHAN TO CARRY HEAVY LIQUOR STOCK Liner Will Be as Wet as Any Ship Afloat, Captain Says. BY GKOROL KENT, United Pres* htaff Correspondent CHERBOURG, April 16.—When 'he United State- liner Leviathan makes her return voyage to New York she will be as v.et as any ship afloat, with enough wine, brandy, v hisky, and gin to satisfy the nirstiest of her passengers, it was ated openly when the ship docked here today. Captain Harold Cunningham said he received wireless instructions from James L. Sheedy, executive manager of the line, to stock up on everything before making the return ’ rip—and stock up Captain Cunningham will. In fact, the only thing 1 hich war worrying the captain toiay was whether to take on his upply of wines at Cherbourg or at outhampton. The ca ‘ward voyage vas calm : id uneventful. Passengers reported iiat it was no drier than usual and no wetter. Some passengers said it ■ as “just like any American city.” "Just Like New York’’ One woman remarked that "it was r at like New York, if you know ■ hat I means’ They appeared to know what she meant. Some pasengers suggested liquor was available by the bootleg route. It was the Leviathan's first cross\tlantic trip since her recent change m ownership and her new stand on the prohibition question. She i earned into the harbor gracefully and innocently, just as if she were not the most talkcd-cf boat in the whole world at the present time. Cunningham said the instructions fiom Sheedy were specific. “We are to buy liquor for consumption on the trip to New York.” Cunningham said, "and any surplus is to be thrown overboard before reaching the twelve-mile limit. Also, liquor will have to be served only bv individual order and not by Inc bottle, except wine, of course. No Bar on Ship "No bar will be permitted aboard the vessel, or any other vessel of the company. We arc to seal our medicinal liquor stores before arriving at the twelve-mile limit and carry no more in these stores than i. allowed by the laws of the United States. 'The eastbound trips hereafter will continue to be technically dry and wc are to take every precaution against bootlegging on board ship. "The next westbound trip,” the captain continued, “will serve as a test and therefore wc shall have to take all sorts of precautions to prevent over drinking.”

CHINESE BANDIT BAND MURDERS U. S. PREACHER Missionary Slain, Several Others Are Wounded in Clashes. BY D. C. BESS, Lnitcd Tress Staff Correspondent PEPING. China, April 16.—Fighting in three sections of China had resulted today in the death of one American missionary and the wounding *of an American newspaper man and three British sailors. The Seventh Day Adventist mission announced today that H. K. White, a missionary stationed at Kveiyang. was killed by Chinese bandits while preaching in southwest Kweichow province. The report gave no details of the bandits’ attack. John Marshall, United Press special correspondent, and three sailors of H. M. S. Tern were wounded Saturday when the vessel steamed into cross-fire of opposing Chinese factions north of Ichang, on the Yanktze river. The Tern was among a number of Chinese vessels which were blocked by the heavy firing across the river and later all returned to Ichang. Americans residing at Changten, Hunan province, were reported in danger from fighting between rival factions there. The Americans ap-

Earlier reports had said the Catholic mission at Changten was looted by bandits and the Asiatic Petroleum Company was wrecked, A man named Gibbs, employed by the Asiatic company, was wounded during the attack. The fresh Chinese outbreaks came on the heels of General Chiang Kai-Shek's successful suppression of the Wuhan uprising, which was followed by his announcement that he expected to resign as head of the national government of the republic of China. General Chiang said he first would put down ail internal disturbances. Besides the fighting at Changteh, and the incidents in Kweichow provinces and north of Ichang, the nationalist government still is troubled by the forces of General Chang Tsung-Chang, who have fomented a military uprising in Shantung. Mrs. J. H. Valentine of 218 Royal avenue, East Florence, Ala., says that- several years ago she was occasionally troubled with indigestion. "I would have dreadful cramping spells and sick headache,” she says. "Everything I ate disagreed with me. I felt like I had a great lump in my stomach. I couldn’t get anything that I had tried to do me any good. "I was talking to a friend about how badly I felt, and she suggested that I try taking a pinch of BlackDraught after each meal. I began taking it, the way she said, at once. It wasn’t long until I began to have a good appetite. I found that by taking Black-Draught I could keep off the sick headache. It is the best laxative I have ever used.” Thousands of other people have reported that relief from indigestion folkwed their use of Thedford’s Black-Draught. This purely vegetable medicine acts on the digestive system in an easy, heathful w’ay, without such sickening effects as often result from the use of powerful mineral drugs.
