NACO GARRISON ENTRENCHED TO RESIST ATTACK Two Rebel Armies Converge for Third Assault on Sonora City. r. Ii i ,A P't NACO, Ariz.. Apnl 12.—The combined Chihuahua and Sonora armies of General Jose Escobar, revolutionary commanaer-in-chief, converged today upon Naco. Sonora, where JO3 ioyal soldiers prepared to withstand the third rebel assault on their garrison. Re-entrenched behind dugouts, barbed wire entanglements and machine gun nests, the federals were greatly outnumbered by the rebel forces of Escobar and General Fausto Topete, who was repulsed in two previous attacks. General Lucas Gonzales, federal commander, was reported to have ordered 100 gas masks in anticipation of a gas attack by the rebels. Reports from the rebel encampment, six miles south of Naco, said F%cobar had obtained a supply of ;.i. and several pieces of three-inch lie Id guns. Escobars lorces consisted of the original Topete army oi nearly 2,000 men, increased by the arrival of detachments from the rebel army ■' i;ich evacuated Chihuahua City. The trial of Earl Russell, charged with murdering his wife with a butcher knif-'- in Indianapolis, may continue into next week, it was indicated today by attorneys on both sides SvS court opened. Russell once before was convicted and sentenced to a life term, but obtained anew trial. Forty-two witnesses testified to lhs good reputation Thursday. They declared he was peaceful and quiet. The courtroom was filled to capacity and it w;as necessary to halt proceedings several times when spectators cheered at evidence. April 12.—Swedish engineers have stolen a march on British and United States business men who have been debating whether to invade Russian markets. A delegation of Swedish engineers is en route to Leningrad to assist Russian engineers in building anew 100,000-horse power hy-dro-electric plant at Swir. While In Russia, the Swedish engineers also will assist in construction of anew navigable canal connecting Leningrad with Lake Ladoga and Lake Onega and give the iport access to Russia's extensive system of inland canals. •NOSE’ DEALS' BOOM Maine Officials Probe ‘Porcupine Mill’ to Collect Bounty. AUGUSTA. Me.. April 12.—An extensive business has been done here in porcupine noses. During the last year and a half, bounties paid for porcupines killed in this state probably reached $40,000. Hunters have been required to bring the noses and feet of the animals to authorities before receiving bounties, and with some hunters turning in 470 noses a day, state authorities are of the belief that artificial noses are being manufactured.
