April 12.—Advance bookings on liners arriving in European ports during the next six months indicate that the season's tourist tide will exceed in volume that of any previous year, notwithstanding recent record-breaking figures due to the American Legion convention and otlur group movements. The President Roosevelt, sailing from New York. June 15. has been chartered by the American delegates to the Lutheran norlri convention at Cophenhagen. After calling at Channel ports, the liner will proceed to Copenhagen. The delegates will return on the Leviathan sailing from Cherbourg, July 9. The National Bohemian Catholic excursion will bring a big contingent to the old world during July. Space for returning members of the party has been reserved on the Leviathan from Cherbourg. Aug. 6. 27 and Sept. 17. and on the George Washington, Aug. 7. and Republic, Aug. 20. The exact date of the arrival of the excursion has not been an- j Pounced. This is a glow that appears sometimes in the sky after sunset or before sunrise, stretching upwards along the ecliptte, or path of the sun. The chief instrument will be a camera ll s 2 feet long with a lens seven inches in diameter. One picture will be made with this, on a very sensitive photographic plate, and with a rotating shutter. This will permit the faint outer reaches of the corona to be photographed without overexposing the much more brilliant inner part. With smaller cameras, they will make photographs of the corona with infrared light, consisting of waves too long to be visible. As the light of the sky is weak in infrared it is hoped that in this way the iarthest expansions of the corona may be reached. The coming eclipse is a remarkable one because of its length. In Sumatra and on the Malay Peninsula, it will last about five minutes, and nearly three in the Philippines. An expedition from Swarthmore

college, Pennsylvania, is located in Sumatra, besides the naval observatory party at Iloilo and Dr. Stetson's at Alor Star. Two other English expeditions, one from the Royal observatory at Greenwich and one from Cambridge university, have gone to the Malay Peninsula. April 12.—Joseph Fialkowski, and his sweetheart, Frances Kortelewski, 19. were facing Judge Joseph Sawicki in police court. Joseph was charged with carrying a concealed weapon with which, it was charged, he intended ending his life because of a quarrel the couple had. "Which do you want,” Judge Sawicki asked, "go to the pen or get married?” Joseph decided to get married.
