April 12.—The troublesome problem ol conserving America, oil resources without running afoul of federal anti-trust laws has been handed to the states, where federal oil conservation board believes it belongs. A compact of .states, in which the federal government might Ire ineluded through congressional action, was advocated in a letter from the federal oil conservation board to the American Petroleum Institute, made public today. P.U lrit'4 rrrxs ~ DETROIT, April 12.—One unidentified man was killed, another j man is known to be missing and three were injured in an explosion here Thursday night which completely wrecked three four-story buildings. Damage was estimated at $500,000. Fire, which broke out immediately after the explosion, enveloped the ; structures, adding to the destruction. Sixteen fire fighting units i battled the flames all night and at ( 3 this morning were able to enter j the ruins in search of bodies. Search was made today for two [ men who took a taxicab from the district shortly after the explosion! and then boarded an interurban ! car 'or Toledo, according to a taxi | driver. Police investigators today were undecided what caused the explosion, but it was believed that gas or supplies stored in a small paint shop in one of the building’s basements was responsible. A little red coaster wagon, which he had purchased for his children, saved the life of Ray Bemus. Bcmus, after selling his automobile, had slept all week on the third floor of one of the buildings, as he had to get to work early in the morning. Thursday night he broke his daily routine to take the coaster wagon home to his children. A few hours later the entire structure w ; as razed by the explosion.
