RULING MAY CURTAIL GERMAN AIR TRAFFIC Internationa i Commerce Hurt by Reduced Budget. E. United. Press BERLIN. April 11.—Wholesale curtailment of Germany’s international air traffic service is foreseen today as a result of the Reich cabinet’s reduction by approximately $5,000,000 from the current aviation budget. The Zeppelin Company, heretofore one of the chief beneficiaries from government subsidies, is said to be planning reduction in international traffic and in the extensive internal routes it has built up. During 1928 the Lufthansa company received approximately $5,500,000 from the Reich and nearly $2,000,000 additional from provincial and municipal subsidies. The present cabinet budget provides only $3,000,000.

THREE MODELS I OF MAJESTICS ARE ON SALE Company Concentrates on Trio of Sets, Gets Beiter Results. An unusual feature in the manufacturer of the Majestic all-electric radiGs is the fact that all manufacturing effort, as well as research and experimental work, is concentrated in making three models. Grigsby-Grunow Company does not manufacture a large line of ; different models and radio equipment, but has concentrated to produce a few receivers of the best possible performance and perfection. Two of the models are solely j radio receivers, while the third is a combination radio receiver and phonograph. The new combination radio and! phonograph is designated as Model 181, while the original models are known as numbers 71 and 72, both of the latter having been improved for 1929. Cabinet More Elaborate The radio receiver chassis in the two latter models are the same, but | the Model 72 has a more elaborate and exclusive console cabinet than ] Model 71. It has been said that the fact j that the Grigsby-Grunow Company concentrated its efforts in a few, models has been the reason for the production of the super-receiver j which has won such widespread i popularity. Instead of a variety of efforts distributed among many interests, all efforts were devoted toward the ultimate perfection of the Majestic radio chassis and a pair of artistic consoles. Now the third console and the combination chassis has been added with the coming of the new Majestic combination. Use Latest A. C. Tubes All models use the very latest A. C. tubes and the same velvet-tuned dynamic speaker built into the set. Operation is simplicty itself with tuning concentrated in a .single dial. Knobs for volume control and anj tenna compensation are found on l the panel. Sensitivity and selectivity as well :as the outstanding tonal qualities !of the Majestic are remarkable. Very little aerial is needed for reception and stations from coast to coast may be tuned in with excellent volume. Walnut in Cabinets Cabinets are made of latest dcl sign with beautiful walnut finish, j The Grigsby-Grunow Company owns | a tract of walnut trees in the south : and a sawmill to furnish its plants ! with the tremendous quantity of 1 stock and veneer needed in the | manufacture of the Majestic. The circuit used in Majestic receivers, Models 71 and 72, is R. F. L. balanced, consisting of three tuned radio frequency stages, a tuned antenna input, and the audio power amplifier. Included in the eight tubes are two CX-371-A power tubes connected in push-pull in the power output stage. The set is well shielded and assures selectivity and the ability to tune through local stations.

SOVIET DRYS, WETS MAW’ Fight for Culture Is Aimed at Alcohol. tin l nitr<t Pn ss MOSCOW. April 11.—After many months of stormy debate, the light between Soviet wets and the drys lias wound up in a draw. The drys gained their point by inducing the government to curtail its production and sale oi alcoholic beverages. The wets immediately declared their intention of increasing the output and consumption of “samagon,” which is the Russian equivalent of American “white mule,” or home-made liquor. There is no law against that. The Gosplan, the state planning organization, then revised the plan for the production and sale of alcohol. Instead of the sharp progressive increase formerly indicated, it has been announced that the consumption must be cut at least to onehalf, or even to one-third during the next Jive years. “Samagon,” made of wdld fruits and berries, is made easily. Government officials believe that there will be just as much drinking in the future as in the past. The fight against alcohol is linked with the campaign for a higher cultural level.

SAXOPHONE DEFENDED I BY NOTED BANDMASTER The saxophone is the most abused and libeled of all Instruments. Edwin Franko Goldman, bandmaster and director of the Pnrol Band, on the air weekly, declared in explaining why the saxophone is used universally by all bands and orchestras, despite the combined efforts of thousands of wits to laugh it out of existence. “The saxophone is a most useful instrument,” he said. “It gives to the band or orchestra a precise tone and quality that is not furnished by any other instrument. It is as definitely a part of orchestras and bands as the cornet or trombone. “Os course the reason for the
