NEW FORDS ARE FAVORITES WITH WOMEN JIUYERS Warnock Company Sales Are Heavy: Excellent Service Given. Tribute to the handsome appearance of the new Ford cars is seen in the increasing number of women buyers. C. O. Warnock. of the C. O. Warnock Company, 813 East Washington street, said today. Women are much more discrunmating than men about the appearance of an automobile, he said, in commenting on the fact that in March, women purchased 35 per cent of the total number of cars sold by the company. In March, the Warnock company's new and used car business amounted to more than $60,000. Os this amount, $50,000 was represented by new car sales and the amount could have been increased considerably but for inability to obtain enough cars from the factory to fill orders. The company completely has equipped its shop to service of the Model A Ford as well as the Model T. To continue caring for needs of Model T owners, the carries parts to the extent of $35,000, as well as $20,000 in Model A parts. The company ha-s adopted anew policy of completely alemiting each car sold three times during the first 1.500 miles. Last month 130 new cars were greased. The firm expects to receive one of the new town sedans similar to one shown at the recent automobile show within the next few weeks. This car is unusually luxurious. Among the interesting features is the arm rest in the center of the back seat, for two back-seat passengers. When three ride on the seat, the arm rest folds back into the cushions. Other arm rests are on each side. Building Permits E. Baumann, porch. 737 Oranee, $375. G. Justus, duelling and garage, 4002 East Thirtieth. $3,700. G. Justus, duelling and garage. 3952 East. PLANT AT NIGHT TO SAVE GERMAN CROPS Believe Good Yields Will Result Despite Delay in Sowing. Bv United Press BERLIN. April 6.—Widespread development of “night planting” in Germany led agriculturists and government officials to express belief today that the country's principal crops would not be impaired in spite of delayed sowing this spring. The exceptionally severe weather of last February, which affected all parts of Europe, hindered planting throughout Germany for a month to six weeks and caused fears that! food shortages would result. Larger farms resorted to days of eighteen to twenty-four hours, however, using huge electric flood lights after dark. This month the night traveler in Germany finds fields brilliant with lights. The farm hands work in two or three shifts, depending on whether the farm is run on an eighteen or twenty-four hour basis. The lights are mounted on tractors so they can be moved about the field as the hands progress with their work.

EGG BUSINESS OF WADLEY CO. AT CAPACITY Warmer Weather Brings Rush of Trade to City Concern. With advent of warmer weather, egg production on the farm is at its height, and the egg grading, sterilized egg. and frozen egg departj ments of the Wadley Company are j operating at full capacity. Fresh eggs from the farm pass j through the grading department, j where they are candled and graded I according to size and quality. Those of best quality are placed in Wadley’s Diamond W. extra select grade and also marketed in cartons under Wadley’s “Best by Test” brand. Eggs of best quality, in excess of those desired for immediate use under Wadley s brands, are moved to the sterilizing department, where they are immersed in a hot bath of mineral oil to destroy the bacteria in the shell, to seal the pores in the shell, to exclude taints while the eggs are being held mider refrigeration, and to prevent shrinkage. Sterilized eggs are growing in favor with the consumer. While this country experienced an extreme shortage of eggs during the winter season just past, the shortage was not felt sharply by the consumer, as sterilized eggs held under refrigeration since the preceding spring and summer were of such high Quality. The frozen egg department of the Wadley Company breaks eggs, separates the yolks from the whites, places them in cans and freezes them, to be held at low temperature for future use by bakers, manufacturers of salad dressings, and- confectioners. This insures a high quality product for use at all. seasons. In addition to its Indianapolis plant, the Wadley Company operates six other plants and more than 150 buying stations in Indiana and Illinois and maintains storage houses and sales branches in New York City. Syracuse. Springfield and Boston. The Wadley Company is a home industry. Its officers are Scott C. Wadley, Fred J. Tiedman, Peter P. Triller and D. D. Cutright. April 6.—Governor Harry S. Leslie reiterated his campaign pledge to give Indiana “the clean and efficient government which the people demand” in an address here Friday night before 500 persons at the annual banquet of the Madison County Republican Club. “The best government is the best politics and that is my idea of politics,” Leslie said. “I do not intend to use the governorship as a stepping stone to higher public office. This, I believe, is as high as I ought to go.” Governor Leslie, accompanied by Mrs. Leslie, met with trustees of the Indiana reformatory at Pendleton Friday morning. Defending his stand against undue leniency to prisoners, the governor declared: “Too many men are serving time in penal institutions of their own accord, this proving their dangerousness.” £ Dismissals from stare jobs are not being made for political reasons, Leslie said, but because of inefficiency. Representative Albert Vestal and prosecutor Oswald Ryan of Madison county also spoke. Charles Taylor was installed as president of the club. Faces Truancy Law Charge B >' Times Special PORTLAND.
