ACCUSE SIX OF ASSAULTING 2 UNION LEADERS Attempt Made to Kidnap Third in Tennessee Textile Strike. Ru Unt'cd Press ELIZABETHTOWN. Tenn.. April s.—This textile mill town was quiet today following high excitement which prevailed Thursday with the arrest of six business men, charged with feloniously assaulting and kidnaping two union officials and attempting to kidnap a third. The men arrested in connection with the alleged kidnaping of Edward McGrady. representative c the American Federation oi Labor, and Alfred Hoffman, southern organizer for the United Textile Workers ol America, and attempted kidnaping of John C Penniz. A F. L. county organizer. They are Colonel Nat T. Perry; Jimmie Troliinger, foreman in the American Bamberg Corporation rayon plant; Charles D. Meadows, realtor; Roy Wilcox, field agent for Troliinger & Troliinger; A. A. Hale, president of Southern Furniture Company, and Paul Mederis, night clerk at the Lynwood hotel. None of the men would make any comment following their release on SI,OOO bond, and all were held for trial at the June term of court after waiving preliminary hearings. Protest by Green F -/ THI trr) fit** WASHINGTON, April s.—President William Green of the American Federation of Labor today awaited the response of Governor Morton of Tennessee to a telegram of formal protest to mistreatment of federation representatives in connection with the rayon mills strike at Elizabethtown. Tcnn. In a formal statement issued Wednesday night. Green describes how Edward M. McGrady, legislative representative of the federation, and Alfred Hoffman, representative of the United Textile Workers, were | driven f, am Elizabethtown where { t hey had been sent at the request of j workers in the mills who wanted to j organize. The “mob'' which forced the men from the city, Green's statement says, “terrorized and outraged them and then threatened tnem with death if they ever returned. In his telegram to Governor Morton. Green said in part: “In the name of the American Federation of Labor I protest this outrage and I call upon you as the Governor of Tennessee to bring these criminals to justice and to extend protection to the lives and persons of Mr. McGrady and Mr. Hoffman. I cannot believe tliat you will permit such an outrage as this to which I am referring to go unnoticed and the perpetrators cf it to go unpunished.” Green's statement also detailed an attack by the same men on the home of J. B. Pinnix at Elizabethtown, wherein Pinnix was dragged from his home. Pinnix’s wife was saved, Green said, by his sister, who came to the rescue with a rifle, exchanging shots with the group. Millikan. 82. former manager oi the Barton ‘hotel and well known in Indiana hotel circles, died Thursday afternoon at his home, 1859 North Talbott avenue, after an illness of fifteen years. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Bertha Millikan; four brothers, Lynn B. and Elihu. of Indianapolis; Isaac W. of Arkadelphia. Ark., and James R. of Cincinnati, and one grandson, Fred M. Taylor of Indianapolis. A daughter. Mrs. Bessie M. Taylor. died in 1919. Mr. Millikan was a native of Henry county. Funeral services will be held Saturday. 10 a. m., at the Hisey A: Titus funeral home, 951 North Delaware street. Burial will be in Batson cemetery. Newcastle, Ind. FRENCH WARSHIP SAILS WiTH HERRICK'S BODY New Cruiser Bringing Envoy Back for Burial in Homeland. fiv United Press BREST. France. April s.—The new French cruiser Tourville slipped out of the harbor here this morning carrying back to his homeland the body of Myron T. Herrick, who served under four Presidents as Amefican ambassador to Paris. The body of the ambassador was placed aboard the cruiser this morning after the arrival here of th~ special train which carried the funeral party from Paris. A French marine detachment was aboard the gray cruiser as an honor escort. The Tourville sailed at 11:40 a. m. FACE CAR THEFT TRIAL Three Men Held After Alleged Confession of Stealing Two Autos. Police are investigating the records of three men held on automobile theft charges following their arrest Wednesday and their alleged confession of stealing two automobile The men held are Silvian McDade. 21. of 142 West Twentieth street; Glenn Marsh, alias Morris, 40, of Cayuga. Ind.. and Frank Bauer, 28. of 3728 Northwestern avenue. The trio was arrested in an automobile said to have been stolen in Lebanon. Ind. They also are said to have confessed stealing an automobile owned by John W. Brim. 389 West Twenty-ninth street, in which they rode to Lebanon.

squad sighted a suspicious automobile in the 800 block on Illinois street Thursday night and gave chase. The car was stopped at an alley entrance on Tenth street when it collided with the poliefe car. Just before the capture, a Negro leaped from the automobile carrying a five gallon can of alcohol which he dropped in his flight to escape.
