of amendments to the criminal code sounded the death knell of the statute. The amendin' its now go to Governor Fred W. Green who will sign ; them as they were promulgated in the legislature at hig request. No longer will the brewer of home brew or the seller of a pint of moonshine be subject to a life term in prison for his fourth conviction. As amended by the legislature the criminal code now pr'-ide: that the i mandatory life sentence will operate only against those convicted for a fourth time of any crime which itself carries the maximum penalty of five years in prison. For all other fourth-offense casts there'is a mandatory sentence of from seven and one-half to fifteen years. The amendments remove more 1 than J 29 minor violators from the
life term provision of the old criminal code. Since the so-called “life for a pint” law has been in effect, one woman and half a dozen men have felt its effect, but with the repeal of the provision their status is left in doubt as the amendments are not retroactive. Governor Green has indicated, however, that he would reduce the sentences of those now serving life terms for liquor law violations. Public Wedding Tonight Bit Times Spec ini ANDERSON, Ind..
