STUDENTS HEAR COLLEGE HEAD Kenyon President Speaks in High Schools. Dr. William F. Peirce, Gambier, 0., president of Kenyon college for thirty-three years, spoke Thursday before students of Shortridge, Technical. and Washington high schools, on “The relation of educational training to success in life and among other things, death.” He will speak tonight at the Kenyon alumni dinner at the SpinkArms. “As any healthy boy looks forward imagining the position he will occupy in twenty, thirty or forty years, on his entrance to college, he thinks of himself as successful,” said Dr. Peirce. “And yet success, as the world views it, is a highly selective result, which comes to few. "Statistics on the percentage of failures, as measured by income and prominence, are distinctly discouraging. All investigators agree that the chance for success of the educated man is immensely greater than that of the man who enters life intellectually ’mprepared. “Education,” said Dr. Peirce, “is not gained by mere attendance in college. It, too, is a highly selective matter. Hard intellectual effort achieves it, and it can come in no other way.”
