Average Stock Prices
Average of twenty industrials Monday was 317159, off 2.41. Average of tw-enty rails was 153.31. off .66. Average of forty bonds was 94.70. up .03. BY ELMER C. WALZER, United Press Financial Editor NEW YORK, March 19.—Further irregular price movements occurred in early trading on the New York Stock Exchange today as large offerings of the principal trading stocks were thrown on the market. Prices continued to be influenced by the possibility of further stringency in the credit situation toward the end of the week and pools largely suspended operations. Radio corporation, new, which led yesterday’s late down turn, broken to new low ground on the movement at 991a, off lVs points from the previous close. General Electric, Bethlehem Steel, New York Central, U. S. Steel and other pivotal shares, all sold of. moderately. Nevertheless strong support was in evidence in the principal trading stocks. Coppers and rails were in good demand while Chrysler was again a feature of individual stocks, rising a point to 112%. Congress Cigar was another strong spot, advancing more than a point to 8514. Over-night advance of 1 cent a pound in both the domestic and export price of copper brought renewed demand for the coppers. Anaconda rose a point to 163%, while Greene Cananea and American Smelting met strong support around their previous closing levels. Equipments were firm under the leadership of Baldwin, which advanced 2 points to 258 on the reports the stock would be split up on a four for one basis. New York Airbrake and American Steel Foundries were strong. Pressure on Radio, new, was continued shortly after the opening and the stock was depressed to a further low on the movement at 98%. Other representative shares continued heavy and the market displayed a highly irregular tone. Trading continued on an active scale and blocks of 2,000 to 10,000 shares of super oil sold at the opening at 10%, up Vs point from the previous close. Other oils met strohg support. This definite strength in oils greatly limited any downswing and brought strong demand at recessions in the principal trading stocks.

In the Stock Market
(By Thomson & McKinnon) NEW YORK, March 19.—The recent remarks of the governor of the Federal Reserve Board to the effect that rediscount rates would be advanced only as a last resort has renewed discussion of the whole question, with bankers and economists somewhat at variance in their opinions, some favoring a policy of advancing the rate a full point to 6 per cent while other's advocate a reduction. others anticipate a movement on the part of banks to withdraw from the Federal Reserve System entirely because of restrictive policy. In view of this lack of agreement in so vital a matter, such inconsistencies as we have been witnessing in the stock market are not hard to understand and they will likely continue until a firm policy is finally adopted on the money question. MIXED REPORTS DECLINE GRAIN FUTURES IN PIT Provisions Considerably Lower; Foreign Marts Also Off. By United Press CHICAGO, March 19.—Foreign wheat markets were about as expected today and, with mixed reports from winter crop areas, futures showed little change here. Corn was steady and oats a shade lower. At opening wheat was Vs cent lower to Vs cent higher, corn unchanged and oats unchanged to % cent lower. Provisions were considerably lower. Wheat, has declined around 5 cents from season’s high, while open interest has steadily increased and is at record figure. Deduction is that many expect higher prices later, but market on face does not favor this sentiment, needing constant encouragement in way of crop damage reports. Temperatures over southwest were slightly lower today. Traders in corn believe recent declines have put grain on a healthier basis, but cash demand must show considerable improvement to develop any gpreat strength in futures. Missouri river points continue to offer corn rather freely. , Oats have been showing a terraency to weaken, owing to fine weather which is encouraging seeding of new crop.
