FREIGHT PLANE PLANS TO SPAN OCEAN JN MAY Carry Cargo From Germany to U. $.; American Girl Among Crew. BY HORTENSE SAUNDERS N'EA Service Write/ NEW YORK, March 13.—The first payload of freight to be brought from Europe by air will start from Germany in May in charge of a crew of five, of whom one will be an American girl, Mildred Johnson of Philadelphia. “ll’s no stunt flight at all,” she insisted. "It’s almost perfectly safe. We’re coming over in a Rohrbach Rostra, which is reall ya flying ship. In fact, if it were forced down to ti e sea, it could finish the trip as an aic-propelled yacht and be adequate in average bad weather.” Miss Johnson, in the few years she has been flying, has covered some 50,000 miles in the air, of which about half was in this country and half in Europe. Flies 200 Hours In the employ of the American Air Transport Association, two years ago, she inspected all the mail routes, consuming 200 hours and covering a period of twenty days, with forty-five different planes and pilots. Then she went to Europe and flew over all the airways of Europe. She is convinced that the development of a cargo service between this country, Europe and South America is much more important than a passenger service. "America has been very wise,” she said, “in developing its mail service, and perfecting that before attempting to make air travel popular in itself.” Ship Weighs Eleven Tons The Rostra is an eleven-ton ship, capable of carrying a five and one-’.alf-ton cargo exclusive of the crew, with a cruising speed of from 115 to 120 miles an hour. It will fly from Germany to Cape Verde, then to the West Indies, and then to New York, with two purposes; to prove the commercial possibilities of these flying boats, and to deliver the plane to this country. The cargo is taken on an exclusive basis, with but one shipment of one kind, for but one department store or manufacturing plant in any one city. The rate is high—sso a pound. Mail also will be carried at the rate of $3 an ounce, the sale for the postage being arranged with the German postal authorities. Miss Johnson expects to have litHAD TERRIBLE GAS AND STOMACH PAINS Says He Eats Anything Now, and Has Pep and Health. People who are suffering from the pangs of stomach trouble and indigestion, will be glad to read how Frank Baker, 625 Keasley St., South Bend, quickly overcame these agonizing afflictions. He writes as follows: “Since over a year ago, I have had a bad case of stomach trouble that Just wore me out. I had sick spells that left me weak, dizzy and nervous. My appetite was very poor, and after meals the food would not digest, but felt like a rock in the pit of my stomach. I had burning pains in my stomach. I could not sleep at night even though I was all tired out. In the morning, I got up feeling weaker and worse than when I went to bed. I lost weight and had no pep at all. The first and only relief came when I started taking Viuna. Almost at once I began to get well. I took it regularly and soon felt like a different man. The bilious attacks and burning pains stopped, my appetite came back, and my digestion improved wonderfully. I can eat heartily again with no gas, and no rock-like sensation in my stomach. My nerves are steady, I sleep splendidly every night, and feci full of pep when I get up. Life sure looks different for me since I got back to health, and I’m mighty thankful to Viuna.” Viuna has worked wonders in thousands of desperate cases of kidney trouble, back-ache, stomach trouble and rheumatism. While no Roharbach plane ydt has crossed the ocean, this type of plane is used extensively in Europe, and all tests have been made on the Baltic sea, which always is a turbulent body of water, with undercurrents, cross-swells and other hindrances to navigation. Dr. A. Rohrbach, German engineer who designed the plane, has recently been in this country, studying the aviation situation with the view to extending his interests here. COUZENS IS SNUBBED Watson May Block Senator From Chairmanship. Bu Times Special WASHINGTON, March 13. Senator James Couzens of Michigan, Hoover supporter and senate independent, may be kept from the chairmanship of the powerful senate interstate commerce committee. Senator J. E. Watson of Indiana, new senate leader, now is chairman. It has not been decided, it is said, that he may keep both places, contrary to most senate precedents. Couzens’ friends believe Watson might keep his chairmanship, to prevent the Michigan man from it. Couzens is the ranking Republican member, but has earned the displeasure of the old guard. •Couzens four years ago dramatically criticised tax refunds by the internal revenue bureau, and Watson, a minority member of the Couzens committee, dissented. Couzens has fought Secretary Mellon ever since. member of royalty for Europeans to dispose of matrimonially. Boris’ name has been connected with many of the marriageable princesses of Europe, including at separate times, three or four daughters of the King of Italy, and Princess Ileana, daughter of Queen Marie of Rumania. Nothing has come of any of the humors, however, and so far as the public knows King Boris today is as far from marriage as when he ascended the throne in 1918.
