Spring, Shoe Style Range Is A mazing Paris Sends Assortment of. Lovely Footwear at Any Price You Can Pay. BY JULIAN BLANSHARD NEW YORK, Marsh 12.—One may, it seems, pay as a big a price as one wishes to put one’s best foot forward in the spring fashion parade this season. For keeping step with stylo demands a tremendous dive*sity of footwear these days. Milaiy may now be as individual in her choice of shoes as chapeaux. Paris is sending over some lovely assortments of beautiful shoes to set the pace for smart feet. Andrea Perugia’s collection contains style pointers in profusion. In cut, color and materials they are original and stimulating. For High-Steppers The greatest innovation is a brand new soie that stands the foot a half inch off the floor. It sounds like a beach clog. It looks elegant. A first glance may make one stare. But, after seeing women dance in evening slippers with this sole and then change to ordinary soles, you have the instinctive feeling that their feet are practically on the ground in the ordinary slipper. The half-inch sole, incidentally, is highly decorative, with either hand carved flowers or jewels set in it. These new soles are light as a feather, being made of very light wood, aluminum or aluminunj and leather. They have three sections, crosswise, with grooves between, to insure extreme flexibility for walking or dancing.
Open Sandal in Favor Since coolness is most desirable or spring and summer, the open shanked sandal predominates, the more open the better. Since all styles have grown more subtle, shoes this spring will not contrast with costumes but blend. Therefore black and bright colors are out. Beige and pastels are in. And such luscious pastels! For walking, golfing, tennis and other active sports, black and white, and blue and tweeds or blue and white vie with the classic brown and white sports models. For daytime street wear the beige pump or one-strap sandal is excellent. So is the blue pump, twoeyelet svelt oxford, or pump made of lizard or any other novelty leather. Pastel Kid Is Good For afternoons, pastel kid, crepe de chine or satin sandals or pumps are excellent. For evening the slippers must be as luxuriously fashioned as milady’s gown, which is nowadays a sumptuous thing. The less slipper there is and the richer the fabrics making it, the more successful the dancing slipper. Ro e beige crepe de chine evening pumps are the best choice for the first pair which must serve with several gowns. After that, they should be as decorative as jewels, softly colorful, fashioned of kid with suede or satin appliques in exquisite pattern. For the white gown and the black, the exceptional is worn, the brilliant red and gold slipper or the silver and black.
Sandal Has Clog Sale ' The Lido T-strap sandal with Perugia clog sole is the latest Paris idea of the afternoon shoe for party wear. It is made of lavender-blue satin, with metalized wooden sole and heel to match. For street wear, Milady slips on the neatest, sveltest adapted pump that is cut almost as high as an oxford, but the extra vamp is cut out like a bowknot and stitched around in original manner. This is the new “mastic” colored kid and calf combined, a soft greyish beige shade that is equally good with tans, browns and greys. Newest and most exquisitely gorgeous of all is a dainty eveni: slipper in pastel green that has a little sos blue in its color, combined with the new half-inch sole and heel of sculptured silver. . The toes and heel are open, with dainty straps of green kid with floral appliques like the sole and ’ eel’s pattern, done in matching suede. PEACE WORKER TALKS Pacific Situation Is Discussed Before Society. Friendliness and understanding—not force of arms—will settle differences around the borders of the Pacific ocean is the opinion expressed by Harry N. Holmes, field secretary of the World Alliance for International Friendship Through the Churches, at a dinner Monday night in the Ctr. mber of Commerce building of the Indianapolis committee of the American Peace Society. GROTTO HOLDS DANCE 1,500 Attend Annual Bali for Benefit of Drill Team. More than 1.500 persons attended the annual military ball of Sahara Grotto Monday night at the Indiana ballroom. The dance was given for the benefit of he world champion Blue Devil drill team. ’Funde from the dance will be used in sending the team to the next national convention in June. The team was presented with a world championship banner by Lewis A. Williams, monarch, following an exhibition drill. The ceremonies were broadcast over Radio Station WKBF. Corde Bags Novel Very unusual shapes are noted in oags made of corde, usually twotoned n dwith a supper fastening Thjg type is more durable than the usual fabric bag and no doubt will be much used during the spring and summer.

Individuality in Easter clothes comes by the triple route of cut, color and rich fabrics. (Left to right) An exquiiste black faille and chartreuse and black printed silk ensemble has horizontal tucks and a natural fox collar. Tremendously pleasing to the eye is the color combination of a grey, blue and wisteria costume. Jaunty and youthful is a tan tweed coat, with raglan sleeves, side fulness, and fur trim.

dresses having this style of flat collar, the latter worn outside, as in a printed dress accompanied by a plain fabric coat. This is rather a girlish fashion, and one not to be adopted by the very mature woman of ample proportions. Adversely, coats with collars naturally are more attractive when the dress is sans collar, the line of the neck corresponding in some manner to the closing lines of the coat. As every woman knows, a dress collar beneath a coat well collared is nothing short of exasperating,

the twain never having much in common, because of the fact that the dress collar invariably bobs out at places least expected and most undesired. Miss Jean Adamson has been appointed local director of Girl Scouts of Indianapolis and Marion county by the Council of Indianapolis Girl Scouts. Since resignation of Miss Gardner, Miss Adamson has been acting local director. She has been connected with the office as field captain for three years.
Color Marks New Spring Party Dress Many Fabrics and Tones Shown; Taffeta Is Much Liked for Crisp Freshness. Party dresses for girls are colorful and flowery this season and are shown in many different fabrics and tones. Taffeta is much lilted because of its crisp freshness and the dainty prints and delicate tints in which it is to be had. Frocks designed for children from the age of 8 to 16 follow closely the styles for women, having plain, sleeveless skirts. Usually a sash of wide ribbon, or one of the same silk as the dress, or other decoration is added and much attention is given to color harmony. An attractive little frock of pale rose taffeta is made with a plain bodice to which a plain full skirt of the silk is attached with several rows of shirring. Around the bottom is sewn wide ribbon in lighter and darker shades of rose, and a sash with long ends 'faced with darker rose is placed oil one side. Another fairy-like creation is made of taffqta in moonlight blue. It is scalloped along all of the edges and has a “baby” waist with puffed sleeves. The bodice of this frock ends .at the normal waist line. A bow with sash ends is attached at the back. Taffeta is combined with organdie in some of the daintiest party frocks shown for girls of from 12 to 15 or beyond. These are. all in delicate colors and have small patterns printed on white or very light grounds. An exceptionally pretty model is made of white organdie printed with a design of little buttercups in two or three shades of yellow, with stems and leaves of tender green.
Tweed Will Be Staple in New Sports Dresses True to tradition, tweed is to be the staple fabric for sports dress in general, and even more particularly for golf clothes, this season. More than the precise tweed weave, however, is now meant by “tweeds” in a woman’s dress, for several other woolen materials are included. All these are made lighter and finer in texture than the old-fash-ioned type of goods, which Is considered to be clumsy in appearance and unwieldly in the hands of the tailor. Some sportswomen still prefer the English or Scotch suits for gol’and other sports, but for the greater number have taken to the lightweight close weaves. These belong no longer to the British alone, for they are being made in France and in America in variants that are especially suited to the modern woman, her activities and her style of dress. Ensemble Invades Nursery The ensemble has invaded the nursery. Even if one be very, very young—say from 2 to 6—there are rules and regulations to be observed not merely for fashion’s sake, but likewise in the interest of economy and convenience. The mother with a sense of thrift will plan the wardrobe of her daughter aged 3, or going on 7, with quite as much care as she plans her own. Yellow Is Good Color Yellow is one of the leading fashion colors and appears in many frocks suited to the bridal party. Green, and the flesh and rose tints, are equally approved, and offer many suggestions for effective wedding color schemes. There is so much variety in types ,of frocks this year that the bride may select the one type which especially suits her face and figure.
Portable Bridge Table With Chairs to Match Is Designed
As an accessory for the beach party, a portable bridge table with small trench chairs to match has been designed. The top is made of canvas in natural color, or of vivid cretonne with the edges finished in striking color contrasts. The frame is of bamboo. " Underneath the top are attached large pockets to hold cards, cigarettes and books. Two strongly made loops of the canvas serve as handles. A smart coat to don on the sandy beach comes made of oilcloth in bright colors. It is made along very simple lines

Internationally interesting and unusually attractive is the beach ensemble worn by Mrs. Gordon Volland of Chicago at Havana. The Dutch trousers of scarlet satin tie on one side in a big bow; The French beret is scarlet, too; the tuck-in-sleevless jumper and Chinese coolie coat are of handblocked tussar silk of tan, scarlet and black on beige; and the Japanese clogs are scarlet and gold. KNEE LESS EXPOSED IN NEW STYLE RULE Although fashion has been indulgent on the subject of how short or how long one may wear one’s daytime skirts, there is a tendency toward exposing less of the knee than formerly. This does not infer a dropping of several inches, for it is amazing how great a change is possible with just half an inch added to the hem. There is no fixed rule by which one can be guided, it being at matter of individual preference. In straight line frocks it is much smarter to see that the skirt length drops to a point below the knee sufficiently to cover such discrepancies of nature as bulges or unattractive bony structure. The length should reach a point to cover all unbeautiful lines as far as possible and should also be in accordance with the height. Straight narrow skirts when amply long standing very often are much too abbreviated when the wearer is sitting.

with huge patch pockets and a very narrow turn-over collar. Its length varies, but in most cases it could be called three-quarters. Carrying out the idea of the bizarre in beach wear, there is a new earring which had its origin in an old Russian army superstition. It was worn for good luck and to keep the wearer from danger. Three rings of graduated sizes hang from a tiny knob, each of a different color. In the original style metel or enameled rings were used, but those now offered are made of galalith in bright colors, this material having been selected because it will not rust. Only one earring is supposed to be worn at a time.

Satin Continues Favorite Fabric in Wedding Gown Satin continues to be the favored material for the formal wedding gown, although many efforts have been made to supplant it with other more novel materials. No fabrics drapes so well, however, or is so adapted to trailing lines of grace if the bride is to walk up the long aisle to the altar as a large church wedding. Many brides make the mistake of over-elaboration in the wedding gown, so that one has a confused impression of ruffles, lace, tulle and general fullness. Asa matter of fact, the frock on simple lines, beautifully cut, makes a far more charming picture.
