$25 a Week Girl Can Get Chic Outfit Best Choice for Easter Is Spring Coat and Hat Combination, Says Style Expert. Choosing an Easter outfit that is versatile is the big spring problem confronting the independent $25-a----week girl. Os course, by Easter costume, is meant the spring outfit. No one dresses solely for Easter Sunday, any more. But there is a certain psychological satisfaction in having accumulated one’s spring wardrobe by that date. The $25-a-week girl usually works where neither smocks nor the proverbial black store costume is appropriate. She must, therefore, consider her spring clothes in the light of both work and play attire. They should Be not dressy, but attractive. Color plays an important part. Then—the Accessories Along with her dresses and coat or her suit or ensemble, she must consider accessories. For these are the little things of life that can give dash and vim to an otherwise unnoticeable costume. Hats, belts, shoes, purses, scarfs, pins and so on must be considered important member * of the style family. In some ways the vrey best choice for Easter is the spring coat and hat combination, with inexpensive figured frocks bought later as one can afford them. Silch a coat should be medium or dark colored wool, ""ithout fur, but cut with a dash in its fullness, its cuffs or collar that makes of it something more formal than a mere sports coat.

It Isn’t Expensive This style of coat can be had for from $14.50 up. Topped by a tricky little felt hat with flaring sides or a drooping backline and given a neat purse, fabric gloves and either a scarf or a boutonniere, a tan lsashine tweed coat or a gray one becomes very smart. For the girl who has a frock or two to start the year with, a silk ensemble or a silk frock and wool coat ensemble is lovely. Ensemble frocks this year must have full skirts, they should play up the feminine neckline and take full advantage of the snug hipline vogue. The coats topping them may be anything from a bolero to a long coat, but the three-quarters coat is the best buy, because it can be made to serve as a topcoat for other frocks. Rememer the need of versatility in everything you buy, when yovr wardrobe is small. The silk ensemble calls for a little more formal type of hat than the coat. More Formal Hat Needed There are copies of French models to be had for a few dollars that emphasize the chic of the fireman’s hat, the Lido curtain-drop back models and other new and becoming editions. It is tricky to have the hat the same plain color as the ensemble’s coat. The third choice I would suggest for the $25-a-week girl is the little jersey, flannel or silk suit with tuckib blouse. If one is handy with the needle, anew blouse changes the whole suit. In picking an inexpensive suit the little cardigan coat with pleated skirt is perhaps the wisest choice. Especially, if you can find a skirt .With one of the new hip yokes. ' Blue in medium shade, a good green, black or brown are all good choices. One tires of red too soon. Light colors need too much cleaning.

Beach Robes and Pillows Are in Striking Designs Beach robes and pillows are interesting in their new shapes. One set of especial interest has both robes and pillows made in shell shapes of burlap, which will shed the sand and also prevent the sun’s rays from penetrating through and producing a burn. Various colors are combined to produce brilliant rainbow effects. New mules for the beach are being made with single wide straps across the toes, wooden soles with broken sections of composition material and very narrow ankle straps. These come in bright colors and are entirely waterproof to stand sand and boardwalks. Some very ornate mules and clogs have also appeared, which, although sturdy looking, are to be worn only for appearances and on smooth surfaces where they will not be scratched. They have hand-painted designs on the edges of the soles and on the cross straps and heels, and where a fabric is used it is usually of some fine silk with an all-over design. NEW CHOKERS GOOD FOR SPORTS WEAR For sports attire one leading designer is bringing out new chokers and necklaces made of galalith composition in natural ivory tints and in amber and tortoise. Huge beads of the amber are used with those in ivory. Small rondeis, too, are noted in some of the necklaces, and when they are in ivory shades, are carved to match the larger beads. Os special interest is the use of

colored galalith beads with the ivory ones in chokers for wear with sweater costumes and beach ensembles. Jacket of Printed Cloth In some of the latest styles for girls the usual order of plain coat and skirt with figured blouse and lining is reversed, and a jacket of printed material is worn over a frock of plain goods. This model has grown out of the mode for Southern resorts, where the short sleeve and the sunbumed-back dress requires an outer garment.

Pajama Suit Appears in New and More Attractive Styles

To meet its rapidly growing range of uses, the pajama suit is appearing in attractive new styles. In addition to the models for beach wear at the resorts and those ' or the boudoir—both well accepted uses by now—there are designs suitable for the informal teas and midnight suppers that have become part of the entertainment ritual of New York’s two-room apartments. The possibilities of developing the pajama suit for such uses has so impressed the designers, in fact, that Mary Nowitzky of Paris, whose reputation for chic pajama costumes

SCOTCH TARTAN KILT SKIRT FOR SPORTS Two smart suits of distinctly sports style are created along different lines by an American designer. One of these has a kilt skirt of Scotch tartan and a short jacket of plain blue flannel with a narrow scarf lined with the plaid. With it comes a sweater knitted of orange yarn, repeating one of the colors in the plaid. The other model is made of tan tweed, cut princess style and piped with brown wool. This frock is buttoned from the collar—a standing one—to the belt, and is lined, to be worn without a coat. Imitate Gingham in Wool An original idea is the use of a gingham-style knitted wool for both sweaters and frocks. This is an amusing imitation of gingham checks knitted in white with blue, green, beige or scarlet yarn. Most of the models made of it have turnover collars and cuffs of plain white knitted wool.

is already wide, has come to see for herself how it can best meet American needs. While the pajama ensemble is considered the smartest attire for beach wear, the fact that water sports are being indulged in also in private pools sunk amid lovely gardens, or at private beaches surrounded by gay pavilions, where one dresses up, has called forth anew form of attire. This is anew garden dress or frock, a full-skirted model which is easily slipped on. Such dresses will be found made of the informal materials which will’ not be damaged by either a brilliant sun or occasional splashing. These dresses even may be worn' over a modern bathing suit if desired, for they are designed with that possibility in mind. Above all, they are designed with the idea of fitting in with a lovely formal setting where tea is served and dancing or bridge parties may be going on.

Smart Suit for Sport Shown in Mustard Color One of the smartest sports suits seen in the early spring collections is an ensemble created by Chanel of mustard-colored, very light weight tweed. The skirt is made straight, with a deep, inverted box pleat in both the front and the back to give freedom of movement. The jacket is hip length, in blazer style, with slender revers and made with three buttons close to the bottom and smallish patch pockets. With this suit is worn a sweater of coarse wool lace in anew tone that is a blending of gray and beige. This is finished in a V at the neck and around the bottom with narrow bands of the yellow tweed. Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon following the 21st of March.

Day Dresses to Be Only Mite Longer But Gowns Worn at Night Will Reach as Far as the Ankles, Says Jean Patou. BY JEAN PATOU PARIS, March 12.—T0 realize the change in fashions since last year, we must analyze both daytime and evening clothes. Compare the silhouettes of the day and evening dresses—you will see that the line of demarcation now is accenuated. The dresses to be worn during the day have gained little in length. Those to be worn at night reach practically to the ground, almost entirely concealing the wearer’s legs as far down as the ankle! Skirts are still short where my sports clothes are concerned. The sweater, which seemed to have acquired an almost static position in this type of ensemble, plays a secondary role this season. Vulgarization is the cause of its abandonment. Washable Sports Suits! It was necessary, however, to seek anew material in order to face the default of the sweater. I finally hit upon that fine washable woolen fabric which is used in England for men’s shirtings and pajamas. There are one or two sports suits made up in this new material. It seems to me that these suits correspond to anew formula besides possessing that additional advantage over the sweater—the possibility of being laundered. I have used wool jersey in a small number of dresses. In every instance the material is plain and of a heavy quality, bearing the appearance of a good woven wool fabric. English Cloths Used English cloths still figure largely in my one-piece'tailored frocks. The reappearance of the “dressy” tailored suit strikes anew note, but these are more fanciful in style than ever before. I have also made the discovery of anew material for evening dresses. This is a tulle so prepared as to permit of almost tailored evening gowns. It is soft and devoid of the harshness of ordinary tulle. Four colors dominate in my collection. Asa matter of fact there are only two, as three of them are but graded shades of one color. Nasturtium Red Is New Nasturtium red is the new color, which I have called “Patou’s LightMedium and Eccentric Capucine.” This is a tint we had not seen for a long time. Black is the other color. Although my present collection is a summer one, I have made quite an extensive use of fur on evening cloaks and on some beach coats. For day wear there is fox dyed “Patou’s

tensively in new and odd shades. Tiny bows are discreetly placed on the backs of the gloves, and often finished with a piping in a contrasting -olor. On the gloves with open or slit cuffs, the pipings are very important, as are also the links, which are used to simulate clasp effects. Some of these are made of leather, others of semi-precious stones, while the sports gloves are often equipped with clasps of either a gold or silver finish in modernistic shapes.
