1,400 BUSSES ENTER NEW YORK EACH DAY Railways Plan Measures to Meet Competition of Coaches. Bp Times Special CHICAGO, March 7.—There are about 1,400 motor bus arrivals and an equal number of departures at New York each day, which means that over 50,000 people enter or leave New York daily by this means of highway transportation. This statement was made here today in a committee report at the thirteenth annual convention of the American Railway Engineering Association as an illustration of the degree of competition which the railways are facing from common-carrier motor venicles. Two principal steps have been taken by the railways to meet this competition. The first method has been marked by the introduction and development of the rail motor car. The second method, which has been more successful for various reasons, consists in the adoption of the motor vehicle by the railroads as a pari of their own service. Sticks for Me That’s the Song Sung by Meredith Nicholson in ‘College Humor.’
"npHE ideal town never emJL braces more than 40,000 folks,” says Meredith Nicholson, famous Hoosier writer, in the April College Humor. “This is the largest aggregation among whom one may think to good purpose. belong to a first class quartet, organize picnics in the chigger season, and take Mary, the beautiful cashier in the Elite motion picture theater, to the annual ball of the Pioneer Club without causing scandal. “My only complaint of my hometown —Indianapolis—is that it has Lisisted on increasing its population so rapidly. “I am not a salaried booster for the Com Belt, but as a native son of that area I have given a great deal of thought to the desirability of residence in other parts of the republic. “Once I thought I saw the Colorado mountains beckoning me, but the blue sky was too much for me; I got so home-sick for Indiana’s slush and the fried chicken out to old Aunt Mary’s that I beat it back at the earliest opportunity. And here I remain, in spite of jobs tendered me in Boston and New York and two chances to put myself on Uncle Sanj’s pay roll as a diplomat. ft u a “'TT'HE search for the right door„ A of opportunity is part of the adventure of life. The youth of the nation begin to debate it before school days are over. The farm boy—like his cousin from the small town—often is disposed to think a Jittle contemptuously of his sire for having spent his life in a small community. “He thinks he would prefer to live in a metropolis where he couid have free swing at a long list of shows every night and where nobody is likely to annoy him by stopping him on the street to ask about his Uncle Tobias’ rheumatism. He is sick of the small town stuff. ‘But if you feel the call to do great things for mankind, the American small city or town offers abundant opportunities for you to give yourself a tryout. You can start a clean-up movement every spring (and get yourself heartily disliked for your enterprise) just as successfully in a small tovra as in a big one. “And if comfort and happiness are the chief goal of the poor old human race, these are more easily attainable where you can walk to your job than where you’ve got to be mashed in a subway to get there.”
Congress in 1820 formed the fl/st committee on agriculture.

Wins Praise The quality of her acting as the Private Secretary in “The News Parade” is winning the praise of movie fans everywhere for this lovely newcomer to the screen. At home in New York City, hundreds admire her charming personality and she has fairly “set the style” on Broadway by the way she dresses her hair. “The simple method I use in caring for my hair,” says Miss Shea, “has been of great help to me in my motion picture work, where one's hair must always look its best. It’s jpst the thing for busy girls, too, because it is so easy. Most of the girls I know in stage and picture work are taking it up as soon as they hear about it. All you do is put a little Danderine on your brush every time you use it. It makes ycur hair so easy to dress and holds it in place wonderfully. It’s ideal for girls who are letting their hair grow r . It keeps my hair and scalp so clean and comfortable. I don't shampoo half so often, now. It gives my hair such a silky, soft, lustrous appearance that all my friends comment on it.” Danderine removes the oily film from each strand of hair, restores its natural color, gives it more luster than brilliantine. It cleanses and invigorates the scalp; helps overcome dandruff. It is delightfully fragranced; isn't sticky or oily; doesn’t show. Waves, “set” with it, last longer. All drug stores have it, in generous 35 cent bottles.—Advertisement.
