BOXING LAW IS SENT SLACK BY CITYJOUNCIL Amended Measure Passed at Monday Night Session; Vote, 6 to 1. The new city boxing ordinance today tvent to Mayor L. Ert Slack for his signature. The amended measure was passed by city council Monday night by a vote of 6 to i. It was the third time council amended the boxing ordinance in an attempt to obtain a legal and satisfactory regulation. Albert Meurer, councilman, voted against the measure, announcing the SSO fee for boxing show licenses would work a hardship on small promoters. The former measure provided for 5 per. cent tax on gate receipts and was held illegal twice by Superior Judge Byron K. Elliott in complaints filed by American Legion boxing promoters. Ordinances Passed The new ordinance was prepared by Smiley N. Chambers, assistant city attorney, with the view of legalizing the measure in accordance with Judge Elliott’s opinion. It provides for “reasonable” regulation of boxing and wrestling exhibitions, giving promoters an appeal on rulings. Other ordinances passed: $14,000 bond issue for Central avenue bridge repair; authorizing purchase of $48,500 equipment for the street commissioner; appropriation of S2O, for unpaid bills; transfer of $15,000 for board of works. Discuss “Through” Streets An ordinance to annex territory between Ralston and Evanston avenues and Fifty-ninth and Sixtyfirst streets to permit construction of a drain, was introduced. The board of safety asked an SII,OOO appropriation to buy 1,500 rubber stop signs for “through” streets. Amendment of the traffic ordinance was delayed again to permit further conferences on preferencial streets, The council feels there are too many north bound preferential streets and not enough cross streets. HIBERNIANS CELEBRATE BIRTH OF IRISH PATRIOT Lodge Also Makes Plans for St. Patrick’s Day, The one hundred fifty-first anniversary of the birth of Robert Emmet, Irish patriot, was observed Monday night by division No. 2 of the Ancient Order of Hibernians at the hall, 59 South Delaware street. Emmet was executed in 1803. Captain P. J. Kelleher spoke. Following the celebration, a meeting of the St. Patrick’s day committee was held under the direction of Lieutenant Eugene Shine, chairman of the committee on arrangements. Since St. Patrick’s day falls on Sunday, the annual celebration will be held Monday, March 18, in Tomlinson hall.

iBUSH FAILS IN FIGHT TO PASS TWO MEASURES Defeat Lieutenant-Governor in Effort for Senate 0. K. on Bills. Although Lieutenant-Governor Edgar D. Bush worked strenuously to have two bills he favored passed, in the senate Monday afternoon, his efforts failed. Try ‘as he would to keep the roll call sounding, despite numerous efforts to halt it, the bills failed to muster a constitutional majority. One of the bills was the Lindley measure 'putting state aid funds back under the state board of accounts. They are now in the office of the superintendent of public instruction. The other was the socalled “full-crew” bill wanted by the railroad labor unions. The Lindley bill lacked one vote of passage. The absentees were being called. Bush leaned from the rostrum and said, “Can’t we get another one.” But the task proved hopeless.

Senator Ralph Adams, Shelbyville, was home sick and Senator Glenn R. Slenker, Monticello, could not be found by the doorkeepers. The final vote was 25 V'es, 23 noes. “A fellow tnat can’t pass his bill with all that help shouldn’t have it passed,” Bush commented. The “full-crew” bill provides that no freight train shall carry mere than 100 cars. Bush again made every effort to have it parsed, overriding a motion to table a motion to call the absentees. The bill mustered only 24 ayes and 22 noes. The state board of health bill, prepared by Dr. William F. King, secretary, and introduced by Senator John H.
