New details of engineering and exclusive features of design in the engine and chassis of the Pontiac Big Six mark Oakland's latest creation as the mechanical aristocrat in the field of low-priced sixes. The most outstanding advantage presented by the new Pontiac is found in/ the larger engine, w'hich develops 57 brake horsepower at 3,000 r. p. m., an increase of nine horsepower over the engine of the previous series. Piston displacement has been enlarged from 186 inches to 200 inches, the new bore and stroke being 3 5-16 by 3 7-8 inches against 3 1-4 by 3 3-4 inches in the 1928 Pontiac.
DODGES BUILD SCHOOL BUSSES Complete Line of Trucks on Show Here. Representative types of Dodge BrothP’-s trucks and commercial cars, formerly known as Graham Brothers trucks, to be displayed at the automobile show by T. A. Bell, Meridian at Eleventh streets, local Dodge dealer, indicate the improvements in appearance, comfort, performance and economy developed in the commercial branch of the industry. The change in name, recently an-, nounced, designates the trucks with the name of their actual maker. Capacities range from the merchants express light delivery car to the heavy’ duty three-ton truck, and the entire line meets 96 per cent of all transportation requirements. A complete line of Dodge school busses with capacities from 18 to 52 children, and three different types of Dodge motor coaches are built by the company. Six-cylinder engines and fourwheel brakes on all models, and radiator shutters operated from the dash on all models except the merchant’s express are outstanding features. A four-speed transmission in the one and one-quarter ton and heavier capacities insures high road speed, ample pulling ability, longer engine life and greater fuel economy. Lockheed hydraulic brakes are standard equipment on all trucks, school buses and motor coaches with the exception of the merchant's express. which is equipped with mechanical internal expanding brakes. All brakes are completely enclosed as a protection against dirt and dust, and afford positive control at all times. dimensions have been gained from several sources. Note the least of these improvements in performance is obtained from a manual heat control to the header. Opportunities have been taken to lessen the weight of the new cars at. no sacrifice of structural strength, and the rear axle gear ratio has ben reduced from 5.11 to 4.8. With the lower gear ratio and the motor refinements have come higher maximum speed, faster hill-climbing ability, and greater economies of oil and gasoline consumption. A single-plate dry disc clutch and a standard sliding gear transmission of a type long employed by Willys-Knight is used in the new models. The I*4-inch propeller shaft has been lengthened over the shaft in the previous line, to accommodate the wheelbase of 112 Vi inches. Frames of new design provide rigidity and strength to make the cars stable and comfortable when traveling over rough roads. They also form a substantial foundation

for the bodies, to eliminate squeaks and rattles. Adoption of anew steering gear prevents whip or road shock from being transmitted to the wheel. Tryon shackles have been adopted for this chassis, following satisfactory use on other Willys-Over 1 and products, and the employment of Watson rubber flow stabilators on all four springs is an added factor that provides easier riding. All models of the Willys-Knight Six are equipped with large mechanical type four-wheel brakes, twelve inches all around, having a total braking area of 243.1 square inches. “Figer-tip control.” tmiversally used on products of the Toled# manufacturer, is found on the new Willys-Knight Six. A button in the center of the steering post controls all functions of starting the motor.
