STUDY FIRST IN CO-EDS’ MINDS, DEANS DECLARE (Hard-Boiled’ Models Are Out-of-Date, College Officials Agree. BY JACK POWERS United Press Staff Correspondent CLEVELAND, O, Feb. 22.—The secret’s out. Girls—or the great majority of them—really go to college to study and not to amuse themselves. That was the opinion expressed here by members of the National Association of Deans of Women during their annual meeting. And who should better know the desires and pursuits of the co-eds than the deans of the dorms? “Isn’t Being Done” The hard-finished product with sophisticated clothes, make-up and “line” who drinks her gin straight and goes to college for “dates” and to collect fraternity pins was being placed on the shelf of the past with the flaming youth and flapper eras at the convention. “It is being done nowadays,” was the word passed out by the deans. There was no hint that any such carrying-on was even indulged in on the college campus of the past, but at any rate it’s not in vogue today, in spite of popular opinion. Dean Geraldine Green of Western Texas Teachers’ college was the most outspoken of the defenders of co-ed morals. She found a sympathetic following among the 400 delegates, too. Wild Escapades Rare According to Dean Green, being “called on the carpet” for wild college escapades is the exception rather than the rule, and that, if a survey of problems of discipline in thirty-three women’s teacher training colleges of the country, it was found 90 per cent of 275 cases that deans of women dealt with concerned minor offenses, such as motoring without permission, attending dances without permission and the old indoor sport of “cutting” classes. Mrs. Mary Ross Potter, counselor for women of Northwestern university, said the 1929 girl student is the one who is attending college to learn rather than indulge in social activities.

Wliat a funny way to escape a COLD
Prevent a cold by rinsing the hands wth Listerine before each meal ? Sounds strange doesn't it? Not when you know the facts, however. During the day your hands accumulate germs. ’Ordinary washing with soap and water doesn’t destroy them. So, carried to the mouth on food, they develop, attacking the mucous membrane. A cold or sore throat or both frequently follows. Full strength Listerine, is powerful against germs—kills most varieties in 15 seconds. Therefore its use on the hands before each meal is simply another wise precaution against colds and sore throat. Mothers handling children’s food should particularly bear this in mind. SET CONGRESS DATE Special Session May Begin in April. Bn Times Special WASHINGTON, -Feb. 22.—Monday, April 22, is the latest date being mentioned for beginning of the special session of congress to consider tariff and farm relief. Several senators say privately they have been informed that Herbert Hoover has virtually agreed upon that date. The information has come to them since Hoover’s return from Florida. Other dates mentioned have ranged all the way from March 18 to early in June. If the session does not start in April it is expected to continue until September, thereby keeping congressmen in Washington all summer.
