JUDGE TO FACE ' THREE CHARGES IN AIMEE CASE Acceptance of $2,500 ‘Love Offering’ Will Bring Prosecution. B ' United Prcse SACRAMENTO, Cal., Feb. 22. Articles ot impeachment, combining three charges, were being prepared today by the board of managers who will prosecute Superior Judge Carlos S. Hardy in the state assembly for accepting a $2,500 "love offering’’ from Aimee Semple McPherson’s Angelus temple. The three phases will be: Practicing law in violation of the constitution; obstructing justice: and general reprehensible conduct. The charge of practicing law will deal directly with the accusation that he gave legal advice to Mrs. McPherson and her mother, Mrs. Minnie Kennedy, just after the evangelist's return from her kidnaping. The second charge, of obstructing justice, will concern his efforts on behalf of Mrs. McPherson when her kidnaping story was being probed. It will be based on his trip to Santa Barbara, where he talked to a newspaper man who had interviewed Kenneth G. Ormiston, Angelus temple radio operator, and a mystery woman who occupied a “love nest” at Carmel with Ormiston. Many have accused Mrs. McPnereon of being in the cottage with Ormiston and not in the hands of abductors. The board of managers may send e committee to Seattle to obtain the

MERGER WILL FORM LARGEST BANK IN WORLD Two Giant New York Money Houses Expected to Be Consolidated. Pji United I'n xf NEW YORK. Feb. 22.—Formation of the largest bank in the world, with resources of $2.000,G00,000, will be announced Monday, it was reported in Wall Street today. The bank wii. be formed through the merging of the Guaranty Trust Company and the National Bonk of Commerce. Myron C. Taylor, chairman of the finance committee of the United States Steel Corporation, was given the major share of the credit today for bringing about the merger, only a few details of which remain to be worked out. The enormity of the enterprise is illustrated by comparison with the other great banking institutions of the world, some of which, with the amount of their resources, follow: Midland Bank Ltd., of England, $1,860,379,094; Lloyds Bank Ltd. of of England, $1,693,576,131, and the three other “billion dollar” banks of the United States—The National City of New York; the Chase National, and the Continental Illinois Bank and Trust Company, of Chicago. Guaranty Trust Company had re-! sources of $1,052,211,198 and the; latest statement issued by the Na- i tional Bank of Commerce shows resources of $934,302,599. It also was reported that a skyscraper would be erected on the site of the buildings now used by the institutions, one of which fronts on Broadway and the other on Nassau street. The Guaranty Trust Company has. been known as one of the "Morgan group” of banks. Prominent on its directorate are Thomas W. Lamopt and George Whitney, in the House of Morgan. The National Bank of Commerce also has been identified with the Morgan banks. Financial experts pointed out today that the merger would be an ideal one. The guaranty company will contribute its vast trust business and the National Bank of Commerce will bring to the merger its large commercial banking business. Officials of neither institution would officially confirm the merger today.
