TRY NORTHCOTT FOR DEATH OF FOURON FARM Attorneys Prevent Him From Making Clean Breast of C r imes. Bi/ United Prtst LOS ANGELES. Cal., Jan. 2. "With another partial confession to slaying four boys on his “murder farm” on record, Gordon Stewart Northcott will go to trial for his life In Riverside today. Except for the presence of his attorneys, Northcott would have made a clean breast of his crimes Tuesday night in the county jail here. Deputy Sh' iff Bright said. Northcott confessed responsibility for the murders of Walter Collins, Louis and Nelson Winslow and a Mexican boy, Alvin Gothea, Bright said. In addition. Bright said, he gave the location of the graves where the bodies may be found, a detail hitherto lacking although he led deputy sheriffs on a wild goose eha.,e over the desert in quest of them. According to Bright. Northcott located the graves as being thirtysix miles east of Lancaster. A posse was to visit that territory today to look for the graves. Northcott called Tuesday night’s conference himself, Bright said, saying he had some important information to divulge. He then proceeded to tell the deputy sheriff parts of the story, but was halted when Bright recalled a court order forbidding Northcott to talk when not in the presence of his attorneys. The defense attorneys were called and Northcott began to talk again. They intervened and Northcott remained silent. Mrs. Sarah Louisa Northcott already has pleaded guilty to the murder of the Collins boy and now is in San Quentin penitentiary. She pleaded guilty, she said, to save her son from the gallows. Guard Mrs. Northcott lift United Press SAN QUENTIN STATE PRISON, Cal., Jan. 2.—A close guard was placed over Mrs. Sarah Louise Northcott here today. She has been despondent—the outcome of strain of a twenty-four-hour period in which she had pleaded guilty to an indictment charging the murder of Walter Collins and made the long train trip here from Riverside. The last of her strength seemed to leave her when she arrived and went through the routine of becoming a prisoner. Only the thought that she had made a sacrifice that may save the life of her son, Gordon Stewart Northcott, made it possible for her to stand the ordeal. "If the boy hangs, I’ll die,” Mrs. Northcott said while she was being led to her cell.
EXPECT TO MOVE FOOD STANDS OFF SIDEWALKS Protests Made on Street .Market Stalls Near Courthouse. Fruit and vegetable stands will be moved from sidewalks on the west side of the courthouse, if county commissioners carry out their present intention. Objections to the stands, which, it is claimed, cause traffic congestion, endangering pedestrians and drivers, have been presented by George onyder. new board president, and John E. Shearer, new commissioner. Snyder and Shearer said they had no objection to the stands on the north sidewalks of the courthouse square, but they do object to the otmds which on market days line Delaware street from Tomlinson hall south, to Washington street. Raucous cries of the fruit and vegetable salesmen frequently disrupt court procedure, the commissioners said. Seeks Community Building Bii fit! tnl PrrKM GARY. Ind.. Jan. 2.—A canvass for funds with which to build a community center building has been started by the West Gary Business Association. Lewis Walker is president of the body. A committee, headed by the Rev. Alexander Almshe. is m charge of the drive. It was pointed out that the community served by the association has neither park, playground or public meeting place.
