CITY PREPARES GAY WELCOME TO NEW YEAR 5,000 Make Reservations at Clubs; Many Private Parties Planned. All over the city plans are being made for a rousing farewell to 1928 and a gay “hello" to the new year, Monday night. Practically every club will have special features for the celebration —and purveyors of imported and botfckn-in-the-bam vintages are preparing for an unusually heavy drain upon their supplies. Hundreds of guests from Hoosierdoom have made reservations at hotels and clubs so rthe holiday. While thousands of parties are scheduled for private homes, the club dinner-dances will occupy the entertainment limelight. More than 5,00 guests will be entertained at clubs, the reservations show. Offerings at the clubs are: Indianapolis Athletic Club—Supper from 10 to 1. Dancing begins at midnight. Many novelty entertainment features will be introduced at the celebration. At midnight he majoriy of guests will shift from the fourth floor to the ninth floor, when the principal entertainment will begin. Columbia Club Dinner-dance from 9 to midnight. Dancing to music by Hoagy Carmichael’s Columbia Club orchestra. An elaborate presentation, “The Royal Jesters at the Court of King Time,” which is a musical extravaganza with a oast of seventy-five, will give twen-ty-eight scenes portraying the spirit of 1929 and will include the abdication and coronation of the Father Time and Little Time. Dances at Clubs ' A special orchestra, “The Fly : ng Flappers," will furnish music for the extravaganza. A surprise novelty has been arranged for presenta- ! tion at midnight. A breakfast dance from 1 to 4 oclock with music by Charlie Davis’ orchestra will conclude the celebration. University Club Dance and breakfast following the Princeton Triangle Club’s presentation of the musical .comedy “Zuider ee” at the Murat. Athenaeum An elaborate ballet and dinner dance. Following the ballet and interpolated through the dances will be a series of cabaret entertainments. Broadmoor—A midnight dinner, dancing to two orchestras and cabaret entertainment. Indianapolis Country Club—Dinner beginning at 9 o'clock and dancing, until the wee sma’ hours. Elk’s Club—Surprise novelty entertainment features, a dinner beginning at 9 o'clock and dancing. Hoosier Athletic Club—Dinner from 8 to 10 o’clock, novelty entertainment and dancing. Woodstock Club—Dinner dance and breakfast after midnight. Theaters Arrange Features Meridian Hills County Club—Although no special program for New Year’s eve has been arranged, there will be a dinner-dance tonight, a dinner-bridge Saturday night and open house New Year's day. Although the majority of the hotels will be quiet except for private dinner parties theMarott has arranged a New Year’s eve ball for its guests. Public dance halls will feature many novelties and entertainments for the occasion. An elaborate entertainment is being arranged for the Indiana ballroom, and favors and novelties will be distributed to the merrymakers. All downtown theaters have arranged special midnight shows at which additional features and novelties will be presented. STORE BANDITS CAUGHT Hammond Police Arrest Two After Robbery in Gary. Bu United Press HAMMOND, Ind., Dec. 26.—Two Chicago bandits who held up a Gary drug store earl yotday and escaped with S2OO in cash, were captured by a posse of Hammond police in a clayhole pit near Maynard. They j gave their names as James Johns ! and Harry Wolf. The police chased the two five miles and forced them to abandon their automobile. Carl Stolz, the drug store clerk, saved a roll of paper money totaling SI,OOO by dropping it on the floor where the bandits could not see it. TWO HURT IN CRASHES Fred Ilctherington, Indianapolis Barber, and Wife Reported Injured. As Fred Hetherington, an Indianapolis barber living at 127 North Vine street, was attempting to lift the wreckage of their overturned automobile frlm his wife on the National road near Brazil, he was injured when a buss crashed into the wreckage, according to a United Press dispatch from Brazill today. Both were taken to the Brazil hospital with cuts and sprains. PRAISES U. S. FLIERS Italian Congratulates Wilbur on Skill of Naval Pilots. WASHINGTON, Dec. 26.—Secretary of Navy Wilbur today received a' telegram of congratulation on “the perfect organization of your aeronautical activities” and the "skill of your pilots” from Geneiv Itaio Balbb, Italian under secretai. of state for aviation. TALK SCHOOL SOROS Issue for Two New Buildings to Be Considered. A $425,000 bond issue resolution for two new schools and two additions was to be considered by school commissioners at 4 p. m. today. Schools include new buildings at School 81. Eighteenth and Brookside parkway, and School 82, Emerson and English avenues, and additions at School 15, Linnwood and New York street, and School 49. Kappes and Morris street. Schools 81 and 82 now are housed entirely in portable buildings, while part of the children at the other two schools are in portables. Whether to employ architects for the new buildings, or use plans used on School 85, also w r as to be discussed. Plans for constructing anew Irvington high school will be considered by the board probably early in January’, Albert F. Walsman, school business director, said. Bu United Press NEW YORK, Dec. 26.—Eight men were in prison today, their SIOO,OOO truck load of champagne and other liquors was in the hands of authorities, Patrolman Robert Rehinan was a hero, and an unnamed man, worn from a hilarious celebration of Christmas, slept peacefully at his home in the Bronx. The man, whose name police refuse to reveal, called the police station this morning and protested: “Say, there are a bunch of bums underneath my window making a lot of noise. They won't let me sleep. How about sending a couple of loads of cops around so I can wear this Christmas off before New Year comes around?” Policeman Rehman was sent to the address. He found the eight men unloading cases of liquor from the truck. At revolver point he herded them together and took them to the police station. HOHLT BANDIT TRIAL SLATED FOR THURSDAY Prosecutor Confers With Two Other Men Who Killed Outlaws. Trial of Lloyd Amos, 24, of 617*/& North Illinois street, charged with auto banditry and robbery for the attempted holdup of the F. W. Hohlt Company dry goods store. 1237 Kentucky avenue, Dec. 8, will start in criminal court Thursday. Judson L. Stark, deputy prosecutor, conferred today with officers who killed two other men who participated in the robbery attempt.. Amos was captured at the scene in an auto, which police allege, was to be used for the escape. The fourth man of the alleged bandit gang, who informed police of the contemplated holdup, will testify for the state, it was indicated. KILLED ON HONEYMOON Bride of Few Days Also Probably Fatally Hurt in Crash. By United Press PALMER, Mass., Dec. 26.—One man. who was on his honeymoon, was killed, his bride of a few days was probably fatally Injured, and four other persons were hurt in an automobile collision today in North Wilbraham, near here. Samuel Kramer, 45, of New York, driver of one of the cars lost his life in the accident. His wife, Lea, 30, is reported near death at a hospital here. Small Boy Saves Brother Bn United. Press BRAZIL, Ind., Dec. 26.—Thomas Floyd, 13, was nearly drowned here today when ice on which he was skating gave way, plunging him inti forty feet of water.
