PHONE MERGER IN VALPARAISO UP JOCOURT Public Service Body Cites Two Orders Before High Judiciary. Whether the desire of the city council, Chamber of Commerce and citizens of Valparaiso to save their local telephone exchange from a merger, which they believe will be entirely unbeneficial, will be acted upon with favor is now up to the Indiana supreme court. Final action in the matter was taken Thursdayl by'the public service commission in an order handed down by Commissioner Howell Ellis. The entire history of the case is recited and then two decisions set forth. One disapproves the merger, which was the original order of the commission denying the Northwestern Indiana Telephone Company permission to sell and the Winona Telephone Company and the Crown Point Telephone Company to buy the Northwestern properties. The other decision is the one ordered made when the commission was reversed by E. Miles Norton in Lake circuit court. It approves the purchase and sale. The case is now before the supreme court, the order points out. Should the lower court decision be reversed, the original commission order denying purchase and sale stands.
