Please Pay Me Some years ago, in a foreign country, a young man borrowed some money. A week ago the same young man had occasion to speak over KGO, powerful Pacific Coast station of the General Electric. Today he has a letter from a DX hound nearly a thousand miles from KGO, asking him for the money. Imagine the embarrassment of the debtor when KGO handed him the letter and on the other hand the gratitude of the creditor for renewing old acquaintances. Radio certainly is a vital part of our lives!
semi-finals last year, tried again this year and have reached the 1928 finals. They are Hazel Arth, Gladys Morrison Ball and Donald Novis. This final contest will be judged solely by a board of nationally recognized musical authorities appointed by the National Radio Audition Sponsorship committee, which consists of Mme. Ernestine SchumannHeink, Mme. Louise Homer, Mrs. Otto Kahn, Mrs. Edgar Sdllman Kelley and Edward W. Bok. VALVES LAST FOfTyEAR Radio Vacuum Parts Should Be Given Careful Test. With average usage the radio vacuum valves in a receiver will give excellent results for about a year. At the end of that time they should be carefully tested and those any indication of being below par should be discarded and replaced with new tubes. It is generally poor policy to use new tubes with old ones, unless the old tubes test up very well. The changed characteristics of the old tubes, necessitating higher filament and plate voltages to produce average results, cause these excessive voltages to be applied to the new tubes with disastrous results.
