Schmidt, former president of city council and former member of the: city plan commission, today suggested to Robert Clair, wealthy Indianapolis citizen now In a sanitarium in England, that he give to the city for a playground the block at Forty-second street and Boulevard place, constituting his old estate. Indianapolis relatives of St. Clair have been negotiating with the park board for sale of the tract to the city. It is beautifully shaded and would serve a territory now miles from the nearest recreation center. Schmidt was one of the appraisers appointed by the park board to value the property. Writes Letter In a letter to St. Clair, Schmidt said: “I have lived in Inidanapclis more than fifty years and have always been interested in the growth and development of this city. You were connected for many years with Kingan & Cos., in an official capacity. This company is one of the outstanding business concerns of this city. I understand you have retired and returned to reside in Scotland, but of course, you are still interested in the community where you prospered in a business way. “Recently Samuel E. Rauh deeded to the city of Indianapolis his home located just north of Thirtieth street v on Meridian street for library purposes. This home is one of the finest homes in this city, and the citizens are grateful to him for this contribution to the city, which the city accepted. Asks Early Decision “It occurs to. me that your family and relatives are still interested in Indianapolis, and as a citizen in this particular part of the city of Indianapolis, I felt I ought to write and ask you to give this property
