Local Pin Gossip BY LEFTY LEE

A meeting of the Indiana State Bowling Association will be held in room No. 1224. Hotel Severin, Sunday afternoon. At this meeting the award for the coming state tournament will be made. A number of cities are bidding for this event, but it appears as if the real battle will be between Ft. Wayne and Terre Haute. Clarence Myers, local booster of the ten pn game, is president of the State association. and Roy J. Stirk of Ft. Wayne, secretary-treasurer. It begins to look as if a real prize list will be given the winners of the "190" scratch sweepstakes at the Central alleys SSunday. If you wish to roll in this event call John Blue for reservations. Another feature for Sunday is the open doubles at the Capitol alleys. You can change partners as often as you like in this event. The Coca-Cola, Weber Milk, Lumber Jacks, Bittrich Meat Market and Service Blues won three games from the Gerking Bros., R. V. Law Motor, Illinois Meat, Special Five and Graybar EElcctric, while the Keystone Six, Roines Alumni and Sportsman copped two from the Slack Poultry, Schoen Bros., and Cook Bros.. A. C. Schoen had a total of <lO4 with games of 177, 182, and 245. "Cow” Schne.der had a fine start for a big total, but a count of 139 after games of 228 and 212 held him to 579. Reynolds had high single game with a score of 256. Entries will close at midnight Saturday. Real boosters of the ten pin game will get behind this event. Frank Sourbier was knocking the ten pins down with his lead pencil last night in the Citizens Gas league at the Fountain Square alleys. Frank is a great "kidder” and placed a two ahead -of each of his games. His actual scores were 158, 157 and 143, total 458. The Deferred and Alteration teams won three from the Foot Trainer and Receivers as the Credits and Go-Getters took two from the Downstairs Store and La Savre in the L. S. Every Tilt Saturday Has Certain Amount of Importance Attached. SCRAMBLE MAY RESULT Gophers Favored to Ruin Hopes of Badgers. BIG TEN SATURDAY Indiana at Purdue. Minnesota at Wisconsin. Ohio State at Illinois. lowa at Michigan. Dartmouth at Northwestern. Chicago (schedule finished). BY DICK MILLER While every Hoosier football fan will be interested in the outcome of the two state rivalry scraps Saturday more than with the outcome of feature scraps over the country, still they will have time between plays to inquire how Wisconsin and Minnesota are coming put, lowa and Michigan, Ohio State and Illinois, Carnegie Tech and New York university, Nebraska and Army, and Yale and Harvard. That victory on last Saturday of Indiana over Northwestern has the prognosticators worried and it wouldn’t surprise many to see the annual state battle end in a draw between Crimson and Boilermakers. Coaches “Bish” Hughes of De Pauw, and “Pette” Vaughan of Wabash, worked their proteges overtime this week as they both see chances for victory at Greencastle. Gophers Favored There are those fans around here who think Minnesota is going to “take” Wisconsin Saturday, and those fans are not few. The word that Coach Spears has his Gopher squad in fine fettle for the final act should not be good news at Wisconsin. The Badgers have been on edge from the time they beat Notre Dame in the opening clash of the year until they trounced the lowa squad last week and it is not likely that they may be “off” form on Saturday and the Spearmen at their best. Every one knows that Michigan has been improving as the season grew older and that does not mean lowa is going to walk away with a victory over Michigan at Ann Arbor Saturday. lowa’s Chance

lowa has the opportunity to share or win the Big Ten title by defeating Michigan, providing Minnesota defeats Wisconsin. Ohio State and Illinois also are shooting at just such a chance. With lowa appearing as a team that "blowed” there are not a few who figure Michigan to win. Northwestern went out of the Conference dash for sure when they lost to Indiana last week, but the battle at Urbana between Ohio State and Illinois should be one of the greatest in the country Saturday. Dartmouth at Northwestern should draw a flock of people because Chicago finished its schedule last week. The easterners are not the best in the east, nor the Wildcats the sensation of the middle west, but then there are those who would go miles to see the west triumph over the east, and that is what they expect of Northwestern Saturday. One Defeat for Three As the conference race now stands Ohio State, lowa and Illinois each has lost one game. If Minnesota beats Wisconsin, the only undefeated team in the conference now, the race will be a tie between lowa, providing they beat Michigan, and the winner of the Ohio State-Illi-nois scrap. ,

Dry Weather! BAD news for those Hoosier football fans who hoped for muddy fields to give their favorite teams better going in Saturday’s big games. There is little chance for rain in Indiana before Saturday after, noon, according to J. H. Armington. United States weather bureau head. The mercury will register about 40 degrees Saturday afternoon and it will be partly cloudy with the sun breaking through intermittently, he said.

Dixie took advantage of a in the leather market to give you the finest "buy” of the year in shoes. A series of last-minute styles, just received from our factories, and named for their new low price ... THE DIXIE THREES. But they might also have been named for the three big savings that have made possible their unbelievable price. The economy of enormous leather purchases . i . the economy of big-volume production, and the economy of direct-to-the-wearer selling from Dixie’s own factories through Dixie’s own stores. Costs shaved and middlemen’s profits savedl That’s the secret of the baker’s dozen of value that’s built into every pair of THE DIXIE THREES.
