November’s Rush Begins for Resort SOCIAL activities at French Lick Springs, so far as Indiana guests were concerned, was much impeded by the election, there being a general return to Indiana cities to cast ballots. However, election over, the return to the springs is on for November. The weather at the springs has been suitable for outdoor enjoyment. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Sallee, Indianapolis, have been guests of friends. Mr. and Grs. George B. Patton, Charles H. Swain and Charles Mattingly, Lafayette, rested at the springs the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Cope J. Hanley, Rensselaer, have been guests at the hotel. Dr. and Mrs. G. F. Holland, Bloomington, were at the hotel for short stay at the hotel. Dr. Charles C. Cramplin, Delphi, and Dr. T. W. Oberlin, Hammond, have been at the springs, as have Dr. E. G. Ricker, Monticello, and Dr. William H. Games, New Albany. Thomas D. Taggart, spent this week in Indianapolis with his father, Thomas Taggart, at the Taggart home on North Delaware street. Chooses Ticket Committee for Griggs Lecture
Miss Elizabeth Keller, 3665 Washington boulevard, chairman of the ticket committee for a lecture to be given by Dr. Edward Howard Griggs, Croton-on-the-Hudson, Orchard Hill/ who is president of the department of philosophy, Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences, has announced the following committee to assist her with the sale of tickets: Mesdames Stanley A. “Mussolini, the Savior of Italy,” will be the topic of a lecture given by Mrs. Samuel R. Artman to the following group of chapters of the International Travel and Study club next week. Elsinore chapter meeting for luncheon at the Marott hotel Monday. A business session and social hour will follow. Australian chapter at the Lumley tea room at 1:30 p. m. Tuesday. Quotations from SS. Peter and Paul will be given in response to roll call. Mesdames Ray B. Noblitt and Pierce will tell of their trip to California. Alpina and Eidelweiss chapters will have a joint dinner meeting at the Lumley tearoom at 6:30 Tuesday evening. Readings will be given preceding Mrs. Artman’s lecture by Miss Nellie Gwin. Musical Program for Service Star Meeting Tuesday Hamilton-Berry chapter. Service Star Legion, will hold its regular monthly meeting Tuesday at 2:30 p. m. at the Chamber of Commerce, preceded by a meeting at 2 of the board of directors. Mrs. George Ruder will sing Kipling’s “Recessional,” “Lest We Forget” and “My Own nited States” and will lead in community singing of “America the Beautiful.” “Stars” and “Onward Christian Soldiers.” Mrs. Bruce Maxwell will be the accompanist. Reports will be given of the state convention of the legion held in Evansville Thursday and Friday. Reports pertaining to Armistice day will be given by members. A luncheon bridge party will be given Friday at the Home Economics Studio. Mrs. E. H. Pursell and Mrs. Daisey Hayes are in charge of arrangements and are taking reservations. Mrs. Bachelder Entertains for Alumnae Club Mrs. Clay Bachelder, 1998 North New Jersey street, entertained members of the Indianapolis Alumnae Club of Pi Beta Phi sorority at the regular November meeting Friday evening. Mrs. W. L. Shaffner, Birmingham, Mich., who is Delta province vicepresident of the national sorority, in charge of alumnae affairs, was the honor guest. Assisting hostesses were Mesdames Carl Fletcher, Dr.. D. O. Kearby, Misses Ethel Curryer, Julia Vestal and Marguerite Ulen. The program committee, composed of Mesdames Paul Brown, chairman: Norman Green, Carl Fletcher and Miss Allegra Stewart, presented two plays, “Up the Little Pidgeon,” concerning the Pi Phi settlement school in Tennessee, and “filthy Lucre.” Miss Beatrice Baity presented a group of songs.

Sorority to Observe Day of Founding THE twenty-fifth anniversary of Mu Phi Epsilon, honorary musical sorority, will be celebrated by Kappa chapter Tuesday with a banquet at the Woodstock Club. The sorority was founded Nov. 13, 1903, at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music at Cincinnati, 0., and Founders’ day will be celebrated by every active chapter of the sorority in the United States Tuesday. Kappa chapter was founded at the Metropolitan School of Music in 1906. The program will be made up of compositions by members of the active chapters, alumnae and patronesses. Those whose compositions will make up the program are Frances Wishard, Helen Quig, Jane Johnson Burroughs, Mrs. J. T. Craig, Mrs. Sherman Davis, Louise Swan and Grace Burroughs Johnson. Miss Mary Moorman will be toastmistress. Mussolini to Be Topic of Lecturer Mrs. r. o. mcalexander. second vice-president of the Indianapolis Woman’s Department Club, will introduce Tom Skeyhill, Tuesday evening for his famous lecture, “Mussolini and the Black Shirts."
