Radio BOTH HOOVER AND SMITH ON ETHER TONIGHT Roosevelt and Borah Also to Broadcast Over Large Networks. By United Press NEW YORK, Nov. 2. —NationWide networks will broadcast tonight’s campaign addresses of Alfred E. Smith and Herbert Hoover. In addition, talks by Senator William E. Borah and Franklin D. Roosevelt, candidate for Governor of New York, are to be heard over lesser chains of radio stations. Roosevelt will be the first on the air. His address will be heard over WEAF, WGY and WGR from 8 to 9 p. m. (eastern time). The Cities Service hour, which usually occupies this period, will be braodcast over sixteen other stations of the NBC Red network. Microphones will be set up for broadcasting Hoover’s St. Louis speech at 9 p. m. eastern time). The Republican candidate will speak for an hour over a network of thirty-five stations, including six on the Pacific Coast. The complete chain will be made up of WEAF, WEEI, WTIC, WJAR, WTAG, WCSH, WRC, WGY, WGR, WWJ, WSAI, WGN, WOC, WOW, WDAF, WEBC WOAI, WTMJ, WCCO, WHAS, WSM, WSB, KSD, WFAA, KPRC, WBT, KOA, KVOO, KPO, KGO, KFI, KGW, KOMO, and KHQ. Smith will speak from the platform of the Brooklyn Academy of Music from 10 to 11 p. m., eastern time. A coast-to-coast network has been arranged and the regular Friday night Democratic program on the NBC network has been canceled, to permit broadcasting of the speech in full. Listeners may hear Smith over WJZ, WBZ, WBZA, WBAL, WHAM, KDKA, WLW, WJR, KYW, KWK, WREN, WBT, WSB, WMC, WHAS, WOAI, KPRC, WFAA, KVOO, WCCO, WTMJ, KGO, KPO, KFI, KGW, KOMO and KHQ. Speaking from Boston Borah will be on the air from 10:30 to 11:30 p. m. eastern time. A network of twelve stations will be used: WEAF, WGR, WLIT, WTAG, WOC, WGY, WRC, WEBC, WOW, KSD, WJAR, WRC. Nov. 2.—The French Academy of Science reports that the Cause of babies crying can often be laid to winds coming from the south. She chose the Berkshire Hills as the location in which to end her days, but upon arriving there she met experiences which reversed her suicidal intent and changed her life.

The Spearmen will present a brilliant and varied Wrigley Review through the NBC system, Friday night at 8 o’clock. “Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man,” an appealing melody from the musical success, “Show Boat,” will be the opening orchestra selection. 30,000 VIEW NEW HOME OF OLD TRAILS CO. Celebration Is Held on West Washington Street by Merchants. More than 30,000 persons visited the West Washington street business district and inspected the new six-story Old Trails Automobile Insurance Association building Thursday and a like number is expected today. Officials of the company conducted the visitors, arriving during business hours, through the building. Making construction of the new building a matter of celebration for the entire neighborhood, members of the West Washington Street Merchants Association have declared the occasion a gala one. Thousands of souvenirs are given visitors to the section. Twenty - five thousand slogans have been received in the merchants assocaition contest for a fitting slogan for West Washington street. A Marmon automobile will be awarded the winer. Because of the rain, the street carnival was held inside of the building. The Newsboys’ band gave a concert on the fourth floor; and on the sixth floor Jack Tilson and his Trail Blazers broadcast a number of Indiana melodies through radio station WKBF. Following a sales meeting in the afteroon, the agents and their families were guests of the company at dinner Thursday night at the Hotel Lincoln. F. N. Daniel, vice-president and general manager of the company, was toastmaster. Addresses were made by Samuel O. Dungan, president, and Mark V. Rinehart, chairman of the executive committee. COP COPS BET AND MAN Shoe Polish Delay Causes Arrest of Race Better. GLASGOW, Nov. 2.—John Carmichael, wishing to make a bet on the fourth race, sent his 9-year-old daughter to place the bet with a “bookie.” The girl offered the money to a policeman in plain clothes. When Carmichael was brought to court, he said he would have placed the bet, but that he had to stay at home and wash the baby, who had rubbed shoe polish over its face. If he had waited until they baby was washed he would have been to late for the race.

The former secretary of state said the election of Hoover would bring continued prosperity, while a Smith victory would place the financial career of every one in jeopardy. “What we need,” said Hughes, in discussinf prohibition, "is a continued effort to enforce the prohibition law by an administration that accepts its policy. Hughes devoted a considerable portion of his speech to discussing Hoover’s stand on the water power issue and also touched upon the mud slinging in the campaign. Hughes indicated that he suspected Governor Smith of having “delusions of grandeur.” "Does Governor Smith think that if he were elected he would be the entire government, congress and all?” Hughes said. “Does he think he is the Democratic party?”
