JOE ROBINSON GETS BIG HAND AT EVANSVILLE Takes Up Farm Relief Issue; Four Speeches Slated in State Today. By United Press EVANSVILLE, Ind., Nov. I.— Cheered by a crowd of 5,000, Senator Joseph T. Robinson, Democratic nominee for Vice-President, opened his campaign in I .diana here Wednesday night with an attack on the farm relief policies of Herbert Hoover and with a plea for better understanding on immigration. “There is no difference,” the senator said, “in the platforms of the two parties on immigration. Both pledge continuance of restricted immigration.” Swinging into the farm relief issue by special request through newspapers here, Senator Robinson said the Republicans have no definite program to aid the farmers. Applause greeted the remark that ”it will not require state socialism to give the farmers equality." A deafening demonstration followed Robinson’s mention of the name of Samuel M. Ralston and a word of commendation for the state democratic ticket. “Senator Ralston never spent any of his time in jail,” said Robinson. “He never spent any time in court defending himself against charges of graft and dishonesty. I am sure the Republicans of Indiana are tired of conditions as they prevail here
Every Shipment Helps
The freight service of the Illinois Central System is provided by a capable, experienced organization numbering tens of thousands of employes and utilizing an investment in road and equipment of hundreds of millions of dollars. It is qualified in every way to fill efficiently all needs for commodity transportation. Here are some of its distinctive merits: It is speedy, because time means nearly as much nowadays in freight as in passenger service. It is economical, having increased less in price than most commodities. It is dependable, because equipment is adequate, power is ample, and the track is in better condition than ever before. The freight service of the Illinois Central System has ample capacity to take care of any probable amount of traffic, and its usefulness is not limited to any particular kind of shipment; the heaviest and the lightest, the largest and the smallest, those going a few miles, and those going thousands are accommodated with equal facility. Every specialized detail of service is provided for. Shipments requiring protection from moisture are transported in cars affording such protection. Refrigerator cars, which also can be heated, are available for commodities subject to damage from temperature changes. The whereabouts of shipments en route can be readily ascertained at any time. Shippers can rely upon an exceptionally high degree of safety for their commodities and upon being reimbursed for loss or damage, if any occurs. Freight service like this is a community asset' of the first importance. Its availability is a primary consideration in the location of industrial and commercial enterprises. Its contribution to agricultural development is indicated, for example, by the strides made in fruit and vegetable growing in the territory through which this railroad runs. The ability of a railroad to provide good freight service depends upon the volume of freight handled. Large shipments, of course, do most to swell the volume of traffic, but every shipment, even the smallest, helps to keep the railroad busy and to make possible good service at low prices. The Illinois Central System therefore heartily solicits and appreciates shipments of every size and kind. Constructive criticism and suggestions are invited. L. A. DOWNS, President, Illinois Central System. CHICAGO, November 1, 1928.

and are prepared to support the Democratic nominee.” Today Senator Robinson was to make set speeches at Logansport and Ft. Wayne and rear platform addresses at Huntington and Wabash.
