LOVE SLAYER JOINS MURDERED GIRLJNJEATH Dies After Second Effort at Suicide in Jail at Kansas City. By United Pres KANSAS CITY, Mo., Oct. 12. Glenn Jenkins, 20-year-old waiter, whose insane love for Miss Marie Young, 21, led him to stab her with a cheap butcher knife, joined his •weetheart in death Thursday night, succumbing to injuries received in his second effort at suicide. The ‘‘love slayer,” who told police he stabbed the sweetheart “because she asked me to,” lived thirty-six hours after he plunged head first from the second tier of cells at police headquarters. Jenkins’ last words were that he had killed his sweetheart at the bidding of a strange impulse; Marie wanted to die, asked him to kill her. Feared Losing Love Fear that he might lose the love of Miss Young because his wages of S3O a month as waiter would not finance their marriage, was one of the theories of police. “Girl crazy,” was the explanation of others who worked on the assumption the youth had become suddenly insanely jealous. The coolness with which Jenkins planned the death is puzzling detectives—how he purchased the butcher knife that ended her life late Tuesday night, the renting of a motorcar to take Marie on the fatal ride, the buying of iodine to end his own life, and finally the purchase of corn whisky to “make him crazy.” Then the ride to the police station with the body of his bride-to-be. Evidence of Brutality The element of brutality crept into the case today as the investigation progressed. was evidence that Miss Young had made an effort to escape the blade of the butcher knife wielded by her lover. A cut in the thumb and marks on her arms showed signs of a struggle An indication of a maniacal anger on the part of Jenkins was seen in the fact that the girl’s left arm was almost severed at the shoulder, and other wounds. Campaign Log Bn United Press Herbert Hoover is pondering whether to delay his trip West until the eve of election, in view of Governor Smith’s projected lasthour drive in the East. Governor Smith campaigned today through Tennessee. He was expected to make a speech tonight at Nashville. Senator Curtis. Hoover’s running mate, was Washington-bound today after a speech at Janesville, Wis., promising farm relief under a Republican regime. Senator Robinson, Democratic vice presidential nominee, attacked Hoover’s position on water power in a speech at Reno, Nev. Chairman Raskob of the Democrtic committee branded as “false” charges that Herbert Hoover owned concenssions in Latin-America, but former Republican Senator Henry G. Hansbrough reiterated them. germs'killed byradio Waves Do Not Leave "Cooked Taste” of Pasteurized Milk. By United Press BERKELEY, Cal., Oct. 12.—Radio waves will kill germs found in milk, according to a report received by the Medical College of the University of California from Dr. Karl Seidel of the University of Vienna. Milk so treated is without the “cooked taste” of pasteurized milk.
