Philadelphia Company Out With Winner in Radio Outfit Line. This is the third of a series covering the latest developments In radio Which appear every Thursday in The Times. These artcles will lave you information on the new AC radio receivers, telling you just how they work under actual demonstration. . BY TIMES RADIO EDITOR This year for the first time the Philadelphia Storage Battery Company is offering a complete radio receiver. For several yeans this company has been manufacturing the Philco socket power, for use with radio receivers, to supply A and B battery power. After great success with the socket power unit, this company decided to enter the set manufacturing field, and have given us the Neutrodyne-'plus, six-tube allelectric radio receiver. This new Philco set Is offered in three models, one table and two console. The tabln models are offered in vivid color combinations of Labrador gray, Nile green, Mandarian red and rich furniture brown. They are shaded in two tones, exquisitely designed and hand-decorated. The console models are of walnut and known as the “Highboy” and “The Console.” Both table and console models employ the same sixtube chassis. May Use Without Aerial The Philco Neutrodyne-plus may be operated without use of an aerial, operating from ground connection only. Philco engineers always have made the claim that this set was a great distance getter without the use of the aerial, so we proceeded to test s he set alor.g this line and the results obtained were far beyond expectations. Without use of an aerial we were able to tune in stations from Denver to New York and from Texas to Canada. Monday night our log showed more than forty stations, including KOA, Denver; WJZ, New York; WBAP, Ft. Worth; WCCO, Minneapolis; KSD, KMOX, WGY, WEAF, WTAM, WLS, WLW, WBBM, KWKH. WGN, WMAQ, WRVA, KSTP and practically all Chicago stations without an aerial. Tuesday and Wednesday nighta were both excellent for radio reception, with exception of slight static interference late Wednesday. Get Fifty Stations During these two nights some fifty-odd stations were received. Both Thursday and Friday nights were poor for distant stations, due to weather conditions, and we were olis car lines also were found to be sources of trouble.
