DICK POWELL TO BE BALLROOM MASTER
DICK POWELL opens anew chapter in his career in entertaining Indianapolis amusement seekers, and presents anew type of dance entertainment Saturday night when he and his own orchestra make their debut as a permanent feature of the Indiana Ballroom Roof. As master of ceremonies and singing throughout the dance program, Dick Powell will bring anew note in dance diversion to the city’s dancers. Heading his own orchestra which he has been rehearsing for two months Dick believes he has one of the best dancer orchestras in this part of the country.
Dick made his debut in Indianapolis with Charlie Davis, following Charlie when he came to the Indiana and assuming the position of master of ceremonies at the Circle for a number of months. Dick has been vacationing for the last several weeks, appearing the past week at the Indiana Theater, the first time since leaving Charlie to go to the Circle. During his vacation the last three weeks Dick has spent his time visiting ballrooms throughout the Middle West and in rehearsing his orchestra, which is made up chiefly of local favorites. Harry Bason, favorite Indianapolis pianist: Melvin Miller, drummer, who was seen with Dick at the Circle, and Joe Galbraith, are three members of the organization formerly associated with Jean Goldkette's band. Among the others are Paul Waldorf. bass: Bennie Benson, saxophonist; Russell Truelock. saxophonist: Gene Woods, saxophonist; Red Huff, trumpet soloist: Louis Anderson, trumpet soloist, and Oscar Rosberg. trombonist. Dick’s debut at the Roof will be the occasion for a gala celebration, planned as the most pretentious affair ever staged at the Roof. In addition to Dick and his orchestra many of the entertainers in Charlie Davis’ “First Indiana Follies” show and possibly Charlie himself will be present to add to the festivities. An added feature of the ballroom this year which has proved popular is a course in free dance lessons on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30 o’clock. Anew and scientific method of learning to dance, called the “Dancograph,” has been introduced to ballroom patrons by Frank Levay of New York. These lessons are given free every Tuesday evening for one hour. After 8:30 there is general dancing. a tt o PAULINE FREDERICK DUE AT ENGLISH Pauline Frederick is to bring “The Imperfect Lady,” a comedy by Zelda Sears and Reita Lambert, to the English’s on Monday night, Oct. 15, for three days. This is Miss Frederick’s first stage appearance here since her sensational triumph in London, where she was hailed as the successor of Bernhardt and Duse. “The Imperfect Lady” has played record engagements this year on the Pacific coast and going to Detroit for three weeks, it remained there for three months. Miss Frederick, though known on the stage and the screen as a powerful emotional actress, is meeting perhaps with the greatest success of her career in this comedy. She appears in “The Imperfect Lady” in person, not on the screen, and is surrounded by a company of well-known players.
me to take it. I got one bottle and that helped mo so much that I took one after another until I had taken nine in all. But now I just get a bottle when I begin to feel badly, for I must say the medicine sure helped me and I am able to work every day. I will answer any questions anyone asks me, for I think your medicines are fine.”— Mrs. R. C. Hazlett, Station G., R. No. 3, Columbus, Ohio. Recommends the Compound Los Angeles, Cal.—“l took Lydia E. Pinkham’s Vegetable Compound because I was working In a factory and I was always on my feet, being the supervisor there. This caused my health to fail and I really was run-down very badly as I had no appetite at all and could not eat enough. I am taking the Vegetable Compound and also the Pills for Constipation. I have recommended them for several years and am safe in saying that probably 25 women have been helped through taking my advice. I am glad for you tc use these facts as a testimonial.”— Mrs. E. A. dorse it. Local newspapers are daily publishing signed reports of men and women in this city and surrounding communities, describing the relief they gained through the use of Konjola. It is a recognized fact that this advanced medicine restores normal and healthy action to the important functionary organs of the body, thereby producing new life, energy and glorious health. Among the great list of local people who testify to the above facts is Mrs. Louise Power, living at 219 East Tenth street, Indianapolis, who made the following statement to the Konjola Man at Hook's drug store, Illinois and Washington streets, this city, where he is explaining the merits of Konjola to large crowds every day. “Before I knew there was a medicine like Konjola, I had to endure the miseries of stomach trouble and nervousness every day and I was beginning to think there would be no relief for me,” said Mrs. Power. "But now I am praising this medicine because it gave me new and glorious health. “I suffered mostly from a completely disordered stomach. In fact, my whoW system was in a run-down condition because of that ailment. My health was mace all the worse by constipation tha; allowed vast quantities of impurit.es to gather in my system and poison all the innerorgans Strong laxatives did not have much effect on me and the relief I did get would only be temporary I couldn’t eat a meal without suffering the misery of bloating and indigestion afterward. I wasn’t getting the proper nourishment from my food and was steadily losing in weight and strength. I was subject to attacks of nervousness and at these times my eyes would become affected. During the day I would get such headaches and dizzy spells that I had to stop whatever I was doing until they passed away. “This was my condition for so long that I actually thought my case was hopeless, but Konjola soon showed me that I was mistaken, because it began to restore my health soon after I started taking it. A new feeling of energy and vigor seemed to flow through my body after every dose and I wouldn’t think of discontinuing this medicine. By the time I had taken two bttles I knew that I would soon be entirely well The miseries of stomach trouble began to disappear and my bowels were moving regularly. I can eat many things I formerly had to deny myself and my food is really doing me some good It is building up my weight and strength and my nerves are getting stronger every day. Now I have the utmost confidence in Konjola because it is the first remedy to give me such relief, and I feel that by ths time I finish the full treatment all my suffering will be ended and that I will once more enjoy the blessings of good health. “The two bottles of Konjola 1 have taken convince me that it is a wonderful medicine for the stomach and I strongly indorse it to others as such.” The Konjola Man is at Hook’s drug store, Illinois and Washington streets, Indianapolis, where he is daily meeting the public and introducing and explaining the merits of this remedy. Konjola Is sold in every Hook store in this city and by all the best druggists throughout this section.—Advertisement.
