Aviation 11 NOT NEWS ANY MORE/ IS VIEWOF LINDY Likes Reporters, But He Won’t Tell Them Much, He Declares. Col. Charles A. JLindbergh thinks reporters are ‘‘all right.” However, he does not see why the reporters, their newspapers, or the public still are particularly interested in him. Lindy, who spent an hour and forty minutes here Friday, making an airport inspection, refused to answer questions of a reporter about his plkns, or plans of the Transcontinental Air. Transport, Inc., proposed air-raii twenty-four-hour coast-to-toast passenger route, which probably will include Indianapolis as a stopping point. “I am sorry, but I make it a practice not to give out much information," Lindy told the reporter. ‘‘For one thing, not telling where I am going next saves me embarrassment and prevents crowds rushing out on the field, endangering their lives.” No Nuisance, He Says “I expect reporters are an awful nuisance to you,” the reporter remarked. “Not at all,” the Colonel hastened to reply. “The older, more seasoned reporters are all right. I get along all right with them. I can’t tell them much, but I guess they understand how it is. “However, I don’t see why they want to bother me. What I do or plan to do is not important. I can’t understand why they don’t leave me alone. “I am not news any more. I am not doing anything spectacular now and that is what constitutes news, isn’t it? I am no different from anyone else and my goings and comings should not interest the public.” Girls Not Passengers Lindy denied he had two girls as passengers when he flew from St. Louis to New York last week. “I did pick up my mother at Detroit and she flew with me to New York, but she was the only woman with me. That shows how accurate some reports are about me. Os course, I will admit I don’t do much to help the reporters get the facts.” Lindbergh left Indianapolis airport at 2:40 p. m. Friday after conferring with Chamber of Commerce officials in regard to a site for a municipal airport here. He declined invitation of Norman A. Perry to spend a few days at Lake Maxinkuckee, saying his con- . nection with the transcontinental route did not permit him to take any vacations for-the present. Planes Parade in Street An air mail delivery destined to go down in aviation history as one of the outstanding feats of the year took place during the Air Mail week celebration at Milwaukee. ' Two Fairchild monoplanes, with wings folded, took on air mail at the central postoffice in the heart of the city, and then taxied down the main thoroughfare, Wisconsin Ave., under their own power to the Milwaukee County airport, where the two planes took off for Chicago to connect with the N. A. T. and Boeing lines for points East, West and South. The purpose of the “airplane parade,” as it was called, was to bring to the minds of Milwaukeeans, particularly those who had never seen air mail planes, a graphic picture of the service and its advantages. Plane Company Formed Bp Times Special LAFAYETTE, Ind., Aug. 11.—The Shambaugl Airport Corporation has been formed to buy, sell, operate and repair planes and establish and conduct an aviation field here.

Permits for Air Students Ejj United Press WASHINGTON, Aug. 11.—A new system to facilitate the issuance of student aviator permits is being adopted by the aeronautics branch of the Commerce Department, y Under the new plan, the student turns his application over to an authorized examining physician who will check it for correctness. The student is no longer required to send the application to Washington. Upon successfully passing the medical examination the physician will issue the student a letter of authority, allowing him to operate pending receipt of the actual permit. '

Air Drop Restores Hearing By United Press lOS ANGELES. Aug. 11.—A drop of 9,C00 feet in an airplane restored the hearing of Mrs. Jennie Fowle, 70, and she was able to hear modern “jazz” for the first time. Accompanied by her physician, she ascended 11.000 feet in the plane which then suddenly dived to within 2,000 feet of the ground. When the plane landed and she got out, a boy with a harmonica was playing a popular tune. It was “jazz,” she was told. “Not bad at all and much prettier than I thought it would be,” was the woman's comment on modem music.
