OU PONT MAY ‘ QUIT MOTORS TO AIDSMITH Large Stockholder Expected to Resign From Board at Meeting. Du United Press ►#WILMINGTON, Del., Aug. B. Pierre S. Dupont, onte of the large stockholders on the board of General Motors Corporation, is expected to resign from the board Thursday. Dupont issued a statement Tuesday saying: "I have nothing to say at this time. I will make an important statement to the directors of the General Motors at their meeting in New York on Thursday afternoon, and that statement will be given out when made.” Dupont has been expected to make a political statement for several weeks and, inasmuch as he is a close .friend of Governor Smith, it expected he might support the Governor's presidential ambitions. Alfred P. Sloan, president of General Motors, recently said the corporation could have no part in the political campaign, and many believed that might lead to Dupont’s retirement from the General Motors board. John J. Raskob, chairman of the Democratic national committee, recently resigned as chairman of the finance committee of the General Motors Corporation. Motors Stock Falls Du United Press NEW YORK, Aug. B.—General Motors Corporation stock fell on the Stock Exchange today on reports from Wilmington that Pierre S. Dupont might resign from the chairmanship of that corporation’s board of directors at the meeting Thursday. Dupont is said to be ready to come out for Governor Smith for President, and may sever his official connection from the company. General Motors stock opened with a sale of 5,000 shares at $lB7 to $186.50, off $1.25 to $1.75 from Tuesday’s close. The flurry of selling was brief, however, and the issue did not sell lower than $186.50 in the first half hour, after which it began to gradual recovery. ARRESTED OVER $5 CAR Youths, Held On Burglary Charge, Read Ad; Came Early. George Noel, 20, of 2421 Brookside Ave., and Joseph O’Connor, 18, of 1027 S. West St., who were arearly Sunday in the GrahamPlige of Indiana Company, Inc., [were discharged on burglary charges in municipal court late Tuesday because they said they went to the 'place in answer to an ad that a used automobile was on sale for $5 and were desirous of being first in line.
