TOLL OF FIVE DEAD TAKEN IN ACCIDENTS 1 — Three Die of Injuries in Auto Crashes; Burns Are Fatal. Five violent deaths .three of whom were children, and two critical ca/,es,' one a 5-year-old boy, is the tragic harvest here for the last twenty-four hours. The dead: Edward Harmening, 55, of 1512 N. Dearborn St., thrown from his bicycle beneath a truck at East and Washington Sts., and killed instantly, shortly before 7 a. m. today. Elizabeth Klinger, 9, Oaklandon, died from bums caused by an explosion. Frank J. LaNoir, 54, of 6511 Ferguson St., died as the result of injuries in a motor accident at Lizton, Ind. Arthur Nunn, Jr., 14, Negro, Keystone Ave. and Seventy-First St.. was killed instantly when train struck truck at Seventeenth St. crossing Thurscday. Louis Altherr, 3, died from injuries received in fall from a tractor at his farm home in Tipton County. Death Driver Is Held The injured: Eugene Hinman, 5, of 525 N. East St., skull fractured when struck by automobile in front of his home. Arthur Nunn, Sr., Negro, father of boy killed, skull fracture and shoulder broken in same accident. Harmening was riding to his work as filer at the Furnas Furniture Company, 139 S. East St., when the front wheel of his bicycle caught in the front wheel of a Standard Grocery truck and he was thrown beneath the truck and the rear wheel passed over his body. William Betz, 35, New Bethel, who was driving the truck north on East St., was held on a charge of manslaughter. The truck was turning west on Pearl St., and Harmening was riding south on East St. when the accident occurred. Can Thrown in Fire Explodes Ernest Brown, 258 N. Pershing Ave., also a Standard grocery employe, was riding on the truck running board when the accident occurred. Betz was released by Dr. C. A. Hadden, deputy coroner, on his own recognizance. The Klinger girl is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Klinger. She died at James Whitcomb Riley Children’s Hospital Thursday night. She had been severely burned late Thursday afternoon when a can thrown into a rubbish fire at the home exploded. It is thought to have contained gasoline. Two brothers, Frank, 7, and

Auto Turns Over V The mother, seeing the accident, screamed and a passing motorist came and rolled the children in the grass to extinguish their flaming clothing, most of which was burned away. They were treated at the office of Dr. C. J. Kneer in Oaklandon and then brought here in the city ambulance. La Noir was riding with Fred Nordyce, 23, when they swerved the car to avoid striking some women repairing a tire on the pavement near Lizton, Ind., Wednesday and the car turned over. He died at Methodist Hospital Thursday night. The Nunn bo ywas killed and his father injured when their vegetable truck was struck by a Nickel Plate passenger train at Seventeenth St. late Thursday. Run Over by Tractor The boy’s body was sent to city morgue by Coroner ft. H. Keever, and the father is reported recovering today at city hospital. The 5-year-old Hinman boy, son of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Hinman, 525 N. East St., is in critical condition at city hospital as the result of a skull fracture received when struck by an automobile in the street in front of his home Thursday. Louis Altherr, 3-year-old son of Andrew Altherr, Tipton County farmer, died at St. Vincent’s hospital Thursday night as the result of being run over by a tractor at his home. The child slipped from the tractor beneath one of the heavy wheels and was almost dead when brought here.
