Three hundred members of the Pioneer Club of the Real Silk Hosiery Mills attended a picnic at Broad Park Saturday afternoon and evening. Attorney Frank M. W. Jeffery, Indianapolis, was principal speaker at the commmunity program at Sarah TANARUS, Bolton Park, Beech Grove, Sunday. Music was by the Beech Grove Christian Church orchestra. Community singing was led by the Rev. C. M. Hamilton. Miss Charlotte Jane Esmon, Miss Velma McKay and Bobbbie McKay gave readings. Similar programs have been planned for alternate Sundays throughout the summer.
R. J. Dearborn was elected president of the Dubois County Association at the annual outing of former ► residents Sunday at Garfield Park. Other officers chosen were Mrs. Flora Whaley, vice president; Walter Mann, secretary, and Charles Hoffman, treasurer. Dearborn and Albert Stump, Democratic nominee for the United States Senate, spoke. Two hundred fifty-four former residents attended. “Forty cities were represented among the 1,000 employes and their families of the Peoria & Eastern Railroad attending the outing Sunday at Riverside Park. Two special trains brought the visitors here, including 300 from Peoria, 111. Committee in charge consisted of Percy B. Helmick, George H. Hoppinger and Bernard Harmon. Delzell family reunion was held at Broad Ripple Park Sunday. Descendants of John and Mary Tyner Delzell attended. The family traces its Marion County origin back to 1821, when they owned a farm at Massachusetts and Emerson Aves. Articles of incorporation have been filed with the Secretary of State for a holding company by Ruby Stout, Harriet Jaehne and Mary McCormick to build an Alpha Delta Pi chapter house on the new Butler campus. Annual Exchange Club picnic, postponed three weeks ago because of rain, will be held Friday at Broad Ripple Park, President Robert H. Espey announces. A program of sports and entertainments has been arranged. Two hundred fifty members and friends of the Indianapolis Traffic Club picnicked at the Boys’ Preparatory School on N. Riverside Dr., Saturday. A basket dinner was served at 6 p. m., followed by dancing. Director E. C. Lipp was in charge of arrangements, assisted by A. T. Byers, Roy Morgan, and Clarence Masterson. Mrs. S. H. Wright, oldest McGuffeyite, attended the MsGuffey picnic at Broad Ripple Park Saturday. Dr. D. S. Gobel and Mrs. T. A. Berry were in charge of the program, which included readings from the famous McGuffey readers, \ :om which the organization gets its name. Annual celebration of the Feast of Lanterns the night of July 28 is being planned by Brookside Civic League. Windsor J. Weaver, general chairman, called a meeting of committeemen tonight at 1772 Brookside Ave., to discuss the program. Twenty-five thousand Japanese lanterns will illuminate in Spades Park and surrounding streets. Kiefer-Stewart Company employes picnicked Saturday at Walnut Gardens. More than 200 attended and after participating in the games and contests had a chicken dinner and remained for dancing in the evening. Pat Dailey, who was arrested at at the Stubbins Hotel, Sunday, today faces charges of assault and battery and blind tiger. Police were called to the hotel on eomplaint of Dailey beating his wife, Anna. They allege they found a bottle of white whisky in his room. Police today received word that Allen Clardy, Indianapolis Negro sought for the murder of Joseph Dunlop, Negro, in a drunken brawl here in May, 1927, has been arrested at Toledo, Ohio. James C. Farrell, 35, of 289 Warman Ave., is recovering today from burns received Saturday night when his automobile caught fire while he was filling it with gasoline at the filling station at Locke St. and Indiana Ave., preparatory for a • fishing trip. A lighted lantern in the machine ignited the gasoline fumes. The machine was destroyed.
Burglars took two valuable Watches from the home of Carl H. Wallerich, 3946 Washington Blvd., Sunday night. Thieves ransacked the home of Charles E. Ferrell, 4145 Park Ave., and took $4 from Mrs. Ferrell’s purse. Marvin Smith, 1322 Beliefontaine St., reported two tires and coils, value $35, taken from his automobile. The semi-annual meeting of the fifteen board of directory of the Indiana Outdoor Advertisers’ Association was held today at the Severin. W. Rex Bell, Terre Haute, is president. STUTZ EXPORTS BOOM Increased export business was given today as one of the chief reasons for the 258 per cent business increase over a corresponding period last year of the Stutz Motor Company, as reflected in a statement of earnings for the first half of 1928. The earnings net $167 a share, after all deductions except for taxes, compared to 53 cents a share for the same period last year. Shipping orders now on file indicate there will be little let up in the next six months.
