RAIDERS HALT SMITH VICTORY CELEBRATIONS Federal Agents Arrest 96 in N. Y. Night Clubs.. Seize Liquor. Bn Vnited Press NEW YORK, June 29. New York’s first unofficial celebration of Governor Alfred E. Smith’s nomination for President ended abruptly early today when an army of Federal prohibition officers swept through sixteen exclusive night clubs, seized liquor and arrested ninety-six persons. Expensively gowned women and men in evening clothes were taken to police stations in the dawn’s early light and held in bail for a hearing in Federal Court later today. AH were charged with violation of the Volstead act. Somehow the tip got along Broadway that a raid was about to be staged, and many celebrities stayed away from their usual haunts. The dry agents descended on Texas Guinan’s Club, fully expecting to arrest the queen of the bright light belt. But for the first time in months Texas had gone to bed early. Helen Morgan, who is the chief attraction at Chez Helen Morgan, also escaped. Maj. Maurice Campbell, head of the dry forces here, imported 125 men whose faces were unfamiliar along Broadway. They had no trouble gaining entrance to the clubs where they were greeted by "hurray for A1 Smith” and the

The clubs raided were: Mimic Club, Knight Club, Ferndale Club, Charm Club, Furnace Club, Jungle Club, Don Royale Club, European Club, Beaux Arts Club, La Ferera Club, Merry-Go-Round Club, Chez Helen Morgan, Texas Guinan’s Club, Blue Hour Club, Silver Slipper and Frivolity Club. The unit of currency in Greece is called the drachma.

EXPECT FORT HOLIDAYCROWD No Speeches on Harrison Program for Fourth. Col. Horace P. Hobbs, who commands the citizens military training camp at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, expects a large crowd of visitors there for their Fourth of July program. He has announced that there will be no speeches. Families and friends of the citizen soldiery have been particularly invited to witness the drill and maneuvering at 3:30 p. m. At 5 p. m. a regimental parade will conclude the day’s activities. The parade and band concert Thursday night was curtailed somewhat because of rain and the crowd of visitors was small. Eighteen reserve officers of the 61st Infantry will report to the camp Sunday for two weeks’ active duty. The list includes Maj. Robert E. Tappan, 808 Guaranty Bldg., and Lieut. James T. Pebworth, 2123 N. Talbott St. Life guards from the 11th Infantry have been placed on duty at the camp pools. The juice of the ink plant of New Granada can be used as ink without any preparation.

In Hoosierdom the first two are favorites, so far as the spelling is concerned. All are far from popular, personally, althought very prevalent in the grass covered woodlands and highways of the State. In anticipation of an end to the rainy season when folks will journey into the country, State Entomologist Frank Wallace has consid ered it timely to spread some information concemnig the lowly chigger. Afflicted hikers and campers are most interested in learning about how to halt the tiny insects from sinking cesspools in their flesh Here is how. “Dust the body and underwear with flowers of sulphur.
