T EE WILLIAMS, Indianapolis •*-' Times artist, made a little journey to Keith’s to see the Stuart Walker production of “The Firebrand.” As Williams sat there his fingers got busy with pencil and paper, and as time went on he created these characters in black and white. The upper left-hand sketch is that of Marie Adels as the model of Cellini. She has the character of Angela. Williams has drawn her in a corner of Cellini’s studio, and around her are some of his sculpturing. In the upper right-hand corner is a sketch of Cellini as played by George Gaul. Cellini is telling with apparent relish another version of the story of killing his enemies. Charlotto Irwin/ portrays the Duchess in the picture in the center. Williams has drawn her as she is sweeping out of the studio after, giving the artist “a piece of her mind.” The Duke is pictured in the lower left-hand corner. Larry Fletcher had that part. Williams feels that he has caught' the character spirit of this person nicely. “The Firebrand” ends its engagement at Keith’s Sunday night. “The Copperhead” will *bJfc presented, with George Gaul playing his last week with the Stuart Walker Company this season. a a NEW DEPARTMENT FOR BURLESQUE CIRCUIT I. H. Herk, president and general manager of the Mutual Burlesque Association, has created anew office for the operation of the Mutual Circuit which is calculated to insure perfectly conducted theaters at every point, and maintain a high standard of performances throughout the entire list of the forty-two shows. The new office is called chief field supervisor, and its duties will re-

JUNGLES YIELD RARE FINDS OF ANCIENT RACE Explorers Discover Maya Cloth, Ten Centuries in Cave. NEW ORLEANS. June 29.—The John Gedddings Gray memorial expedition of Tulane University, exploring the jungles of Central America. has reported to the university here that splendid process has been made in unraveling the mysteries, past and present, that lie hidden in the unexplored arebs of the Tzendales jungle. The expedition is headdd by Franz Blom. noted explorer of Central America and Mexican jungle country. 1 Among recent discoveries of the expedition, according to a letter to the university from Blom, was a piece of Maya cloth believed to be more than 1,000 years old. The cloth was found in a small cave situated in a section known as the “cave of the textiles.” Much difficulty was encountered by the explorers in reaching the cave, the writer revealed, but persistence finally won out. The exploring party also reported making contact with the five men and one woman, the only survivors of the ancient Southern Lacandon Indians. It was the latter race that in ages past caused so much trouble for missionaries sent to convert them. At Zapotal, one of the native villages where the explorers stopped for a brief stay, the ceremonial calendar was still in use. This calendar was used in this section approximately 1,500 years ago.
