problem for a big boss when he takes his young men to Pans. When the Tilden troupe—Hennessey, Lott and Coen—arrived in London to prepare for the final round of the preliminary matches, Frank T. Hunter, the wealthy publisher of New Rochelle, N'. Y., was awaiting them. By virtue of his position as the second ranking American player and through the ties of an intimate friendship with Tilden, Hunter is expecting a place of importance upon that team. Hunter refused to remain in this country to play in the matches against Mexico, China and Japan and he went to Paris, wheie he got a fine smacking from Henri Cochet in the French championships While Hunter was sojourning in Paris, young John Hennessey. George Lott and Wilbur Coen did so very well in this country that there are reasons to doubt that the erratic Hunter could have beaten them put for a place on the team. MEMBERS of the Indianapolis Golf Association struck back at J. Pluvius today, determined he was not going to cause the second postponement of their planned twoday tournament. At 9 a. m. they began drifting into the caddy house a„ the Indianapolis Country Club prepared 'or action. Dressed in clothes suitab.e to combat a driving mist that swept the course the feminine golfers declared no time was better than now to get used to such weather. If the present schedule of the weather man continues such atmospheric conditions might greet them at Terre Haute when they meet in the Indiana State tournament, July 16 to 20. a a a Elizabeth Dunn, State cliampion, was on hand early driving a few from the first, tee and practicing putting on the water-soaked greens. She played with Mrs. Ben C. Stevenson in the first twosome. That one-up victory Miss Dunn gained over Mrs. Stevenson in the final State meet match last summer was the cause of quite a bit of friendly rivalry between the two. a a a Columbia Club members. nearly a hundred of them, who engaged in a spring tournament at tho Indianapolis Country Club last week, gathered at the club for a golf dinner Monday night Prizes for eveivbodv was tne slogan. From T. B. Orbison. who received the low gross award, and J. A. Brookbank. the low net prize, to the last men on the list of entries, thev all received a prize of at least a golf ball. However. some of the lads between 12 and 15, who were in the class last year are going faster than the others. While not wishing to boast. Chuck feels Highland will be heard from among the junior golfers in the near future. tt a tt A MATEURS, two of the best in jfV the State George Lance and Johnny Simpson, both of Terre Haute, showed the way to the pros of the State and their amateur partners Monday in the regular weekly meet held over the Martinsville Country Club course at Martinsville. Walter Kennedy, owner of the course and the Home Lawn Sanitarium, was host. He posted a SSO additional award to the $250 entry fees gathered from fifty entrants. Pete Sholtz, pro at the Terre Haute Country Club, where George and Johnny regularly play, was on hand to carry the $l5O they won back to his golf shop. Todajfc he was busy getting together merchandise to total that much to divide between them. n n tt The two Terre Haute "sliuon pure*” hung up a best ball score of 6*. To do this. Simpson, who has been banging the gutta percha about the fairways of this State as an amateur champion and run-ner-up for several years, turned in an individual 69. Lance, who defeated Simpson iu tfee Anal match for the Stat* title at Terre Haut.' last summer, helped Johnny on three Men with birdies. From some of the pros who took their medicine nicely, we learned today, that two amateurs teamed perfect!'. tt tt tt A score that would usually win any proamateur meet was good only for second money in the case of Ralph Stonehouse, PJ?? Coffin, and Will Diddle, who took S9O for a 68 best ball score. tt n tt Chuck Garringer and Jack Tuit.te, of Highland, had to be content with third money with a 69. Jock Watson and his partner, G. E.
