KIN OF HOOVER ASSERTS NATION NEEDSJNGINEER Mining School Dean Says Brother Well Qualified for Presidency. By MAX STERN PALO ALTO, Calif., June 6.—Professor Theodore J. Hoover, dean of Stanford School of Mines, isn’t interested in politics, but he very much wants Kid Brother Herbert to become President of the United States. This, he says, is because he thinks this country needs a boss engineer at its head, and Herbert, he admits, is a good one. Dean Hoover sees America as a wastrel land, dissipating its mineral and other resources uselessly. Just as at the beginning of its pioneering era the nation needed Engineer George Washington, so now at the beginning of the conservation era it needs Engineer Herbert Hoover. “I look upon my brother’s career with the keenest interest, and with not a little misgiving, for it is certain to take several years off his life,” said Dean Hoover. ‘‘But I glory in it, not because he is my only brother, but because I feel that this country needs an engineer for President. Engineering Runs World “Practically every phase of our modern' complicated life presents an engineering problem.
