G. 0. P. LEADERS TURN TO SCENE ! OF CONVENTION Hoover Aids in Kansas City Busy: Talk Farm Plank. BY IRWIN I. FEMRITE United Press Staff Correspondent KANSAS CITY, Mo.. June 4.-~ Party leaders today began arriving for the Republican national convention which opens here next Tuesday. Government functions at Washington practically will be at a standstill during the coming week and nearly every member of the President's cabinet is expected here to aid convention activities. President Coclidge will be en route to the summer White House in Wisconsin when the convention opens , Hoover Forces Confident Postmaster General New is expected here within the next day or two with James W. Good, manager jof the Hoover forces, and Secretary Hubert Work. Considerable activity is noted by Hoover leaders now on the ground,. Numerous conferences have been held with farm leaders in discussions of the agricultural plank to be inserted in the party platform. /They are confident of the strength • Jof their candidate and openly predict his nomination on the second %>r third ballot. Question Mellon Stand Secretary Andrew Mellon of the Department, will head Pennsylvania’s delegation of sev-enty-nine. Asa staunch friend of the administration, Mellon has been represented as approving the Coolidge draft movement. Hoover managers claim the Pennsylvania delegation will swing to the Secretary of Commerce. Mellon will be accompanied here by Secretary of War Dwight F. Davis. Others due to arrive early this week include Secretary of Agriculture Jar dine, Senator Arthur Capper, Kansas, and C. Bascom Slemp, former secretary to President Coolidge. Slemp has expressed himself as believing Hoover will be nominated early in the session.

HARRISON LAW SCHOOL GRADUATION TONIGHT I Ex-Judge F. C. Gause to Speak at Thirtieth Commencement. Fred C. Gause, former Indiana Supreme Court judge, will address Benjamin Harrison Law School graduates at the thritieth commencement tonight at the Columbia Club. Dean W. W. Thornton will preside as toastmaster. Roy A. Holtzclaw, class president, will give the validictory address. Dean Thornton will confer the LL.B. degree on the thirty-four graduates. FALSE BANDIT ALARMS BRING POLICE SQUADS Jtush to Banks; Short Circuits Are Blamed. Three false alarms brought police emergency squads out this morning. Not only the emergency, but a dozen other officers were rushed to the Indiana National Bank. There were no bandits and no one there knew how the alarm was sounded. Earlier this morning the police rushed on a similar wild goose chase to the Ft. Wayne Avenue State Bank, where a short-circuit in the alarm system was found. The third false alarm came before dawn from the United Motor Service Company, 1133 N. Meridian St. Police found that a horn on a motorcycle had started functioning and when it continued neighbors thought it was a burglar alarm and called police. 14 YOUTHS SENT TO U. S. REFORAMTORY r Originally Sentenced to Prison for Car Theft. Four youths, sentenced Friday to the Federal penitentiary at Leavenworth, Kan., for motor theft, today were ordered taken to the newly opened Federal reformatory at Chilicothe, Ohio, by Federal Judge Robert C. Baltzell. They are Cecil Rife, 27, Bloomington; Court Argadine, 23, of 3440 School St., and Alfred Blakesley, Springfield, Mass., a year and a day each, and Cecil Waymire, 18, Muncie, eighteen months. According to a letter received by Baltzell today, prisoners from 18 to SO years old, who are first tenners, may be sent to the new institution. Baltzell today reduced the sentence of Joseph Sgro, 914 Lexington Ave., from four months to three months, on a liquor charge, because of Sgro’s physical condition. Walther League to Elect 81l United Press EVANSVILLE, Ind., June 4.—Entering the last day of a two-day conference, 350 Indiana and northern Kentucky Lutheran church Walther League delegates were to choose officers and make the 1929 convention city here today. The convention opened Sunday with a public worship service attended by 1,600 persons. President T. G. Eggers, Ft. Wayne, was boomed for international president, and Ft. Wayne will bid for the international ' convention.

Bit Times Special BLOOMINGTON, Ind„ June 4 Six thousand three hundred students of Indiana colleges and universities are embraced in the Indiana junior Republican organization, which was launched in South Bend last September with nine members. Plans are under way for making the organization national in scope, according to Anton Kominarek, Jr., of South Bend, a law student at Indiana University, who founded the organization and is its president. The organization, intended to inculcate an interest in civic, State and national affairs early in youth, will hold its first State convention at Indianapolis July 15-20.
