RIOTS SUBSIDE IN JUGO-SLAVIA; FEAR RENEWAL Situation Stii! Tense, With Feeling Against Italy Running High. BELGRADE. June I.—A measure Ru United Pres* of quiet prevailed through Jugoslavia today after the series of antiFascist disturbances of the past ten days, in which many persons have been injured and official notes have passed between the two governments. The most serious difficulties occurred Wednesday night and officials communiques said today that sixty-four persons, including both gendarmes and demonstrators, had been injured. Twenty-one of those injured are in serious condition. The communique said forty-five persons, including thirty Communists. were under arrest. The Italian minister. Bordero, had an audience with the king last night and took official leave of the country. He informed his majesty that the new Italian minister, Galli, already was in Rome, prepared to entrain for Jugo-Slavia. Although the situation remained somewhat calm in Belgrade, reports here said that thousands had staged an anti-Italian demonstration in Skoplje. Police intervened and finally dispersed the demonstrators, but not until after the gendarmes had swung their rifle butts at the fore- j most leaders of the crowd. Also it was learned today that the Jugo-Slav government had decided not to reply to Italy’s note until its consul had ascertained the damage to Jugo-Slav property as result of demonstrations in Fiume, Trieste and Zara. The government desires an answer from Italy concerning the incident at Zara, of which the Jugoslav authorities wrote to Rome recently. B<t United Promt LONDON. June I.—A dispatch to the. Daily Express today said that the powerful Jugo-Slav semi-secret society Narodna Obrana had summoned a public anti-Italian meeting in Belgrade Sunday. The message. coming from Vienna, said that Fascists had renewed anti-Jugo-Slav rioting in Zara, Wednesday night. The Fascists entered the Jugo-Slav consulate, took the flag from the con- j sul’s motor car and burned it on I the seafront, while shouting “war j with Jugo-Slav,” the dispatch said. '[

Henry Ford will be cited to appear in the Cumberland County Orphans’ court early in July to defend some antique treasures left to him. Uuder the will of William E. Haskell, his collection of antique glassware, china, hooked ri gs, quilts and furniture was left to Mr. Henry Ford of Detroit, Michigan, to be used as exhibits and are never to be sold or given away.” Mrs. Hannah A. Haskell, his mother, is contestping the will and newspaper notice was given to all the beneficiaries, including the automobile manufacturer. PROHIBITION FAILS, VIEW OF MUNCIE POLICE HEAD Declares Indiana Laws Hamper Law Enforcement. By Time* Special MUNCIE, Ind.. June I.—" Prohibition is a failure,” according to Arthur B. Jones, Muncie police chief. Jones made the statement in commenting on a recent announcement by Chief Jacob Graul, Cleveland, Ohio, who urged a return to the saloon as a solution of troubles arising from attempts to enforce dry laws. Indiana laws, requiring search warrants for liquor, hamper officials in enforcing prohibition, Chief Jones believes. He considers the saloon an evil, but offers no other solution of the liquor probVm.
AMERICAN GIRL ENTERS GERMAN BOAT RACES Takes Two Motor Boats for Speed Competition. Hu I nitnl Prefix NEW YORK, June I.—The only American entry in the international motor boat races to be held on Lake Templin, Germany, June 15-17, will be a Long Island girl,, Miss Helen Hentschel. Miss Hentschel has sailed for Hamburgh to compete against drivers from England, Germany, Franc #and Italy. She took with her three American-built stock motors and two specially-designed boats for the cempetition. Th<? internatiohal course on Lake Templin' is two and a half miles long and lies between Berlin and Potsdam. After competing abroad Miss Hentschel will return in time to enter the Exposition races at Long Beach, Cal., in August. Taylor, submitted for probate here Thursday, provides for establishment of a lecture series on the United States Constitution at Butler University, Indianapolis, to be known as the “Edwin Taylor Lectures on Government,” as a memorial to her husband, a Butler graduate.
