THE national finals in Washington to select America’s champion for the third International Oratorical Contest this fall, will be broadcast through stations associated with NBC Red network tonight. The radio hook-up will be linked from 7:15 to 9 to broadcast the speeches of the seven district winners of the United States regional preliminaries. One of the seven will be chosen to represent the United States against the champion high school orators of seven other nations at the international finals in Washington, Oct. 13. At the national finals tonight, Herbert Hoover. Secretary of Commerce and leading Republican candidate for the presidency, will deliver the principal address. Other features will be a musical program by Reinald Werrenrath, noted American baritone and the United States Marine Band. The seven high school orators, who have survived the district. State and regional contests, conducted by fifty-three newspapers throughout the United States, will determine the high school oratorical championship of this country in addition to selecting the American representative for the international finals. One of the largest vocal ensembles south of the Mason and Dixon Line will be heard over WBAL, Baltimore, tonight at 7 when the Knights of Columbus Choir of the Maryland metropolis broadcasts a program of both sacred and secular songs. The WBAL Ensemble will add to the attractiveness of the evening with several classical numbers. Prank LaForge, concert pianist of note, will perform in the concert to be radiocast over WOR, Newark, at 6:15 tonight consisting of both vocal > end instrumental numbers. Anew feature for NBC Red network listeners will make its debut at ' *7 tonight, presenting a fifteen-min-ute rogram. The trio consists of flute, harp and cello. The evening’s presentations will consist of the Mozart “Minuet,” Schubert’s famous *‘Ave Maria” and the “Rondo” by an ©ld Italian master, dementi. The Sunday religious services to be heard over NBC networks are listed below: Noon—Red chain. Interdenominational radio service: Dr. George William Carter, "The World's Best Seller.” 1:00 —Red chain. National Youth Conference: Dr. Daniel Poling. “Winning Peace.” I:ss—Blue chain. , St. George's Church vesner services; Harrv T. Burleigh,6 baritone soloist. 8:30—Blue chain. National religious service: Dr. Harrv Emerson Fosdick, "The Limitations of Anxiety.” ?:45—Red chain. Biblical drama: part one of “David and Bathsheeba.” The works of some of the classical composers are to be offered in the program by Don Voorhees and his cncert orchestra to be-broadcast by the Columbia System at 7 Sunday night. Among the musical writers are to be found the names of Rachmaninoff and Grieg. The former's “Prelude in G Minor” and the latter’s “Erotik” will be played. Supporting these classical masters there is to be heard a program of semi-classical numbers by such composers as Drigo, Niemann, Cadman, Strickland and Coleridge-Tay-lor. The eminent concert pianist, Hans Barth, will interpret on the harpsichord and piano the master works of the Norwegian composer, Edward Hagerup Grieg, during his recital over the NBC Red network Sunday night at 5.
