EDISON GROWS GOLDEN ROD FOR RUBBERSOURCE Industrial Market Is New Field for Farmer, Says Inventor, f By United Preat NEW YORK, May 25.—Thomas A. Edison has turned to sowing goldenrod seed with the Idea of prevention of war through preparedness. The octogenarian Inventor has, with one move, taken up the cause of the American farmer, preparedness for war and opposition to a possible rubber monopoly. The growth of rubber on American farms is his immediate concern, and it is for this purpose that thirty-two experiments are being made daily at his nine-acre farm at Ft. Myers, Fla., on goldenrod and other plants. New Field for Fanner Interviewed by Wheeler McMillen, associate editor of Farm and Fireside, with Henry Ford and George Martin, editor of the magazine as interested listeners, Edison supported the frequently made suggestion of the magazine that the time has come for the farmer to pay greater attention to production of industrial products. “We want only so much to eat,” said Edison in agreeing that the food market is limited to the stomach’s capacity, while consumption of industrial products has no such boundary. “I am at present experimenting to obtain rubber for war purposes. In case of war we will be prevented from importing rubber, disorganizing our transportation systems as we have not enough horses; also our military systems of transportation. Goldenrod Best Source “I have collected up to date nearly 1,600 wild plants. The seeds of 1,400 wild plants are being sown in my garden of nine acres. “So far more than eighty of our wild plants have been found to contain rubber. At least twelve will grow on the Southern cotton lands without injury by frost. Goldenrod, plain goldenrod that grows wild abundantly in nearly every State, is one of the best sources of rubber I have found among native wild plants.”

MARKET FOR HAIR OF GREAT FLUCTUATES One Napoleonic Lock Sold For 515, Another at $1,250. By United Preaa LONDON, May 25.—N0 market is subject to such wide variations in price as that for locks of hair of the great and the near-great. A lock of Napoleon’s hair sold recently for only sls which another, no larger or more authentic brought $1,250. In Vienna a lock of Shubert’s hair was put up for sale at auction with only a $45 reserve attached. Yet in spite of the fact that this is the great composer’s centenary year, not a single bid was registered. A tiny wisp of Lord Nelson’s hair brought $1,575 while a similar relic of the Duke of Wellington realized only $5. A lock of Goldsmith’s brought $50 —which would have been a godsend to its owner during his lifetime. BANS CIRCLE PARKING Mayor Will See That State Law Is Enforced. Elimination of parking in Monument Circle will be undertaken by Mayor L. Ert Slack, he indicates. “I hope automobiles may be removed from the circles in the near future,” Slack said. Col. Oren Perry, Monument superintendent, asked the city to ban parking in the circle several months ago, but no steps have been taken to conform to the plan. Parking in Monument Circle is in violation of the State law, Perry pointed out. BEGAN TO GAHacT STRENGTH SHE’D LOST Found Cardui “the Greatest Help” for a Weak, RunDown Condition. Felt Equal to Her Work. “I have taken Cardui, and have found it to be the greatest help for a weak, run-down condition,” says Mrs. Danie Rabon of Lugoff, S. C. “'I tried several tonics, but none of them seemed to help me until I began taking Cardui.” Mrs. Rabon explains that she had negelcted taking proper care of herself until she was “in a bad way.” “I could not rest at night,” she adds, “apd I was nervous in extreme.. I go upset easily. “After I began taking Cardui I could see that I was improving. I began to gain in weight, almost from the first dose. I had been so nervous that I fell off to a shadow. I began to gain what I had lost. “My appetite improved; I was hungry at meal time and enjoyed my food. “The nervousness decreased. I was not nearly so weak. I think that is the greatest thing about Cardui, for I had been so weak at times I could hardly keep going to do my work. After I had taken Cardui for a time I felt like a different person. I could do many times as much work as formerly, and I felt equal to my task. I did not mind doing the things that came my way.” S For Over 50 Vfeer* a (Sardoseptlc, for hygienic reasons, I should bo used by women as a I mild, harmless detergent; 50 eta. j
