CANCER COST IS 3800,090,000 Deaths in U. S. Last Year Total 110,000. By Science Service NEW YORK, May 18.—Cancer costs on an average SI,OOO per case for medicine and nursing alone. Multiply this by 110.000, the number of cancer deaths in the United States last year, and there results an. annual cancer bill of $110,000,000, according to statistics just compiled by Dr. Louis I. Dublin of the Metro- j politan Life Insurance Company. When the economic value of the victims is computed from the actual dollars and cents earning capacity of the various age groups, cancer losses run up to over $680,000,000 annually, a figure that Dr. Dublin 1 has estimated equals a tenth of all j the iron and steel manufactured in | the country every year or all of the ; current income of the State of Louisiana. This plus the illness costs brings the grand total up to SBOO,000,000. “If we had that much money loss every year through other forces of nature we would get busy and try to prevent it,” declared Dr. Dublin.

EX-BISHOP BAST TO BE PASTOR Wants to Stay in Church; Returns to Denmark. Bn United Press KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 18.— Former Bishop Anton Bast of Copenhagen, convicted by a special commission of the Methodist Episcopal Churchjif imprudent conduct in the administration of his duties as a bishop, is satisfied to go back to Denmark, unfrocked, and preach the gospel as an ordinary minister. “I love the church and will continue to work for it and God,” he said. “After a rest I hope to be assigned to a church in my country and continue to serve as a minister.” Although the seventeen jurors which unfrocked Bast allowed him to continue in the ministry, his pastorate rests with the action of the Danish annual conference, which meets in July. Bast served three months in prison after his conviction by a Danish court for misappropriating church welfare funds in 1926. Funeral Directors W. T.
