DRY SLEUTHS FIRE AT YOUTH; CITY ISROUSED Free Use of Guns Rouses Greeley- Citizens to Open Probe. Ey United Press GREELEY, Colo., May 18.—Officials headed by Mayor E. H. Hcmchens today started an investigation of charges that a Greeley policeman and a Federal prohibition agent fired three times at Henry Wiltfang, 20, because they thought he had liquor in his car. Except that the youth escaped unharmed, the case parallels other recent incidents in which dry agents fired without provocation upon unsuspecting motorists. Though Greeley citizens are aroused by this latest “invasion of civil liberty,’’ Federal prohibition headquarters in Denver aparently has taken no action to investigate charges that United States Prohibition Commissioner Doran’s latest order against shooting, except in selfdefense, was violated here three days after it was issued. The officers are Joseph R. Calloway of Longmont, Colo.. Federal prohibition agent, and Cecil Roberts, local policeman. They are accused of firing three shots at Wiltfang the night of May 7 on a Greeley side street. -The case is being compared with that of Earl Longwell, 21, who was slain at Woodland Park, Colo., last September by State officers when he failed to obey a command to halt; and with the case of Jocab D. Hanson, who is near death at Ft. Niagara, N. Y„ with a coast guard bullet in his head. After it was all over, Wiltfang says, Calloway waved his gun toward the bullet-torn ear and said: “You’re a damned lucky kid.” The shooting came without warning, Wiltfang said today. “I heard one of the men shout: ‘Hey,’ he said. “Then I speeded up and the next thing I heard the shots whizzing past my ear." The religious order, the Society of Jesus, the members of which are called Jesuits, was founded by Ignatius Loyola in 1534.

SANDINO WARNS U. S.JNJ.ETTER Says Captured Americans Will Be Killed. By United Press PUERTO CABEZAS, Nicaragua, May 18.—A declaration that because the United States had refused to withdraw its forces from Nicaragua all Americans captured by revolutionists “will have reached their end,” was contained in a letter, bearing the signature and seal of General Augustino Sandino, rebel leader, found at the La Luz mine in his territory. The letter was found on the ashes of the mine by Harry Amphlett, British superintendent, who said the revolutionists had made a third raid on the rich property. Two hand been reported previously. All buildings but two at the mine were burned in the third raid, Amphlett said. The letter, which he produced, bore the signature of andino and his purported seal—a representation of a Nicaraguan, with drawn sword, standing ove a prostrate American j Marine.
