WOMAN ROUTS BANDITSIN CAR Shoots When Husband Falters Before Gun. By United Press MERRILLVILLE, Ind., May 10.— Mrs. George Carson. Joliet* HI., had more nerve than her husband when bandits attempted to hold up the couple on the Lincoln highway, east of here. The Carsons were en route to Joliet, when they noticed a large touring car blocking the road. As they neared the automobile, they were commanded to halt by its occupants and a sawed-off shotgun was pointed at them. While her husband wilted in his seat, Mrs. Carson grabbed a pistol and firdd twice. Windows in the bandit car were shattered and the occupants took refuge in a nearby woods. The Carsons reported their adventure to authorities here. State Policeman Gerald H. Johnson, who happened along the road a short time later, found a pool of blood in the rear seat of the bandit car which led to the belief that one of the shots from Mrs. Carson’s pistol took effect. Authorities said they believed the bandit car was Btolen. Museum Opening Sunday By Times Special BRAZIL, Ind., May 10.—Clay County’s museum, located in the courthouse here, will be dedicated and opened to the public at a ceremony to be held Sunday afternoon. JAPANESE ENDS TOURJJFWORLD Wins $1,500 by Encircling Globe in 36 Days. Bi! United Press TOKIO, May 10.—Toichiro Araka today completed his around the world tour, just thirty-six days after he started from Tokio. He thus won the $1,500 first prize offered by the Tokio Jiji Shimpo for a world tour, by regular carriers, in less than forty days. Araka also defeated his rival, Rynkichi Matsui, who is bound home now from California. It was little more than a month ago that Araka and Matsui started their speedy world girdling tour, Araka starting east and Matsui going west v By boat, fast trains and other normal modes of _ travel they sped around the world, stopping only briefly in the main cities to deliver greetings from Japan. The two passed between Berlin and London. The race was an even affair until Matsui, en route from England to the United States, was held up when his boat was delayed in docking. He missed a mail plane from New York and therefore missed the boat that probably would have brought him ahead of Araka. Matsui sailed Wednesday from San Francisco.
