Indiana , Purdue Baseball and Track Teams to Clash This Week-End
Rival Diamond Nines Meet Friday at Bloomington Field. DUAL EVENT SATURDAY Star Athletes to Be Seen in Action. By Times Special LAFAYETTE, Ind., May 10 Athletic rivalry between Purdue and Indiana. Hoosierdom’s two Big Ten schools, will be at its height this week end with the baseball and track squad of the two institutions scheduled to settle the question of supremacy. The “Purdue-Indiana” week end starts Friday at Bloomington when Goach Lambert’s rapidly rising Boilermaker nine attempts to continue its ascension at the expense of Dean’s strong Crimson crew, which still retains some title hopes. Purdue got away to a poor start in the Big Ten race, losing the first three games, but since then has taken anew lease on life and chalked up four consecutive victories.. Saturday will find the two Hoosier schools’ outdoor track teams measuring their strength in a dual meet at Bloomington that will provide some indication of the way the | teams can be expected to perform in the Indiana State track meet here May 19. Both Indiana and Purdue boast outstanding performers on the track and field this season, but Indiana holds the edge in dual meet strength by virtue of its well balanced squad. At least two men who are stamped as Olympic possibilities will be seen in action during the afternoon—Orval Martin, Purdue’s sensational miler and half-miler, and Wilmer Rinehart, Indiana’s javelin thrower, who set anew mark of 215 feet, 4 inches last Saturday at Northwestern. To complete the week-end's “out-of-town” activities, Purdue’s tennis squad will be visiting the Northwestern courts Saturday in an attempt to chalk up their first Big Ten win, while the golfers, led by Capt. Johnny Lehman, will be after State honors in the Indiana State college meet at the Highland Country Club, Indianapolis, on Friday. In addition to Lehman, the Purdue squad will be made up of Cook, Thomas and Traylor. 817 NOMINATIONS MADE I'J) United Press CHICAGO. May 10.—A total of 017 nominations have been made for the five feature events during the spring meet at Arlington Park. The combined money value of the five stakes is $62,500.
