URGES SCHOOL SITES BE FOR LATERGROWTH Board Head Says Broad Ripple and Irvington Plats Needed. “It costs more to educate children in. Indianapolis high schools than it does in the Indiana Boys’ School at Plainfield, but results are better,” Theodore P. Vonnegut, school board president, said today, urging new Broad Ripple and Irvington high schools. The board is expected to pass resolutions Thursday giving notice of intention of purchasing sites for the two new high schools. The Broad Ripple site, on which an option is held, is located immediately south of the present Broad Ripple High School, contains seven acres and will cost approximately $30,000. Consider Irvington Sites Two Irvington sites are being considered, one at Riley Ave. and E. Washington St., containing eleven acres and costing about $30,000, and the other at Audubon Rd. and E. Washington St., containing six acres and costing approximately $9&,000. The board is expected to approve the Riley Ave. site Thursday. Buildings cannot be constructed on the sites for several years yet, Vonnegut said, but in order to care for future growth they should be large enough for 2,000 pupils each. “Because of the penurious policies! forced on the school board in the I past, the new Washington and Crispus Attucks High Schools, opened last fall, were of inadequate size,” Vonnnegut said. Buildings Too Small “Washington High School was j filled almost to capacity the open- J ing day, and Crispus Attucks ic near the capacity point. "The new Shortridge High School, to be ready for occupancy the first of next year, was built for only 2,500 j pupils, but with extra chairs in each j room can be stretched to 3,000 j capacity. The old Shortridge build- ! ing already has practically 2,500 j pupils. "With more and more children j continuing past the grade schoolsl into high schools each year, it is j up to the board to make provi- j sions for continued growth in school j population.” I In Memoriam Notices INMEMORIAM —In loving remembrance ol our dear wife, mother and grandmother, Jessie F.
